We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.

Prologue

Why?

Why? is a question used so often and yet no one can answer it. It's just a simple three letter word and yet it has the power and capability to bring pain and confusion into a person's life with just the thought... Why? Why live? Why breathe? Why feel the pain in which a human feels when it can be taken away as quick as a blink of an eye?

It's such a confusing, manipulating and unpredictable word and yet people worldwide use it on a daily basis. Why? It never made sense to me... I guess it never truly will and I have accepted that now; I think.

This acceptance however does not stop me from being constantly suffocated by those simple three letters; does it?

Why, am I alone?
Why, am I not good enough?
Why, do I deserve this?

It constantly runs through my brain... Well at least it did... until I found my shelter.

I be someone else.

Its my shield, my walls and my defense, all combined. I need it to survive; yet I lose part of myself each time I do it.

My names Layla and I was broke and now I am lost... And I guess your wondering...

Why...?

Chapter one

My feet sunk deeper into the, now warm and relaxing, sand covering them like a blanket. My toes curling, enjoying the feeling of freedom and happiness in the forms of the wind and sea.

My heart beat quickened as the seas soothing waves first reach my feet covering them with warmth from the water which had been heated from the mesmerizing sun set, I stood watching it slowly creep down from the sky which now consists of  blends of beautiful oranges and pinks.

I remember when I was young, watching the waves get closer and then running as they were about to reach my feet, until I couldn't outrun them anymore. That's how I feel about life these days. Watching it unfold slowly; yet forever unable to outrun it in the end.

Letting my mind wander, my eyes trail to a family sat near me laughing and soaking up the last of the sun. The father, strong and broad, placing the mother on his one shoulder and spinning around with her as the daughter curls in a fit of laughter at the pair.

I remember that. Being whole.

Now it's just me and mum, though I guess it's better this way.

The wind picked up causing the loose black band to fly from my hair, unleashing a lock of brown curly waves to fall past my shoulders.

I sigh at the mess my hair formed, reaching down to pick up the band, as I do I glance at the worn down leather watch on my wrist, panic taking over me.

I'm late.

My feet take off before my head can process everything, and I sprint to the town center just next to where I previously stood.

I slow down as it came into sight. It's large sign 'LA Motte's Corner Bar' flashing giant shades of yellow and gold.

It sounds fancy but everyone just calls it 'The Motte', it's about as plain a bar as you can imagine; but I love it here.
