Hello, just really quickly, this review will be pretty basic, for those who don't know whether or not to watch Death note. I have done a more in-depth look at important characters (well two important characters) and theme. So if you have seen death note and want a deeper understanding of characters and theme you can read that. (Well lets be honest, it isn't amazing analysis,just a few observations)
What is death note about?
So, Death note is about a young high school boy ( Light Yagami) who is bored of being perfect. He gets the best grades and everybody loves him. Then one day he discovers a note book called Death note which states that the person who's name is written in this book will die. Light assumes it is a prank but curiosity gets the better of him and he writes a criminals name in the book. Sure enough the criminal dies. Light then decides that he could be the God of a new world. He decides to kill prisoners, using his new note book, in order to create this Idealistic 'new world'. But soon the police start realizing that all these prisoners are dying. These serial killings catch the eye of the world renowned detective- L. The show really centres around these two geniuses- Light and L- battling it out, Light trying to outsmart L and L trying to outsmart Light. And yet they have to work together in order to outsmart one another. I would say that death note is quite serious and dark (as one would imagine with an name like 'death note'. However it isn't so dark that I was put off watching it- does that make sense?
Should i watch death note?
Personally, i feel that death note was well done. I felt that all the characters were developed well and for the most part, I felt that they worked well together. The series was beautifully animated and I really liked the religious symbolism. However, I feel that after events in episode 25 (I think) the show wasn't as good. Although it was necessary, I felt that it just wasn't the same. Through out the show I laughed, I cried and I was ultimately satisfied with it.
Overall, Death note is a very excellently executed anime and that it really should be watched. I would recommend it to anyone who likes more physiological programs.
