The day that Farah Sapphire was born, Elphaba had been filled with joy, but also with much resent.
Farah had been born with With a great resemblance to her mother. She had very fair green skin and black hair, the only inherited from Fiyero was her gorgeous blue eyes.
Elphaba originally hadn't wanted any children, at the risk of them inheriting her skin tone. After she and Fiyero accidentally conceived Liir, Elphaba wanted no more. Until Fiyero talked her into having at least one more.
They had gotten very lucky with Liir, he was born with the complexion of his father, receiving Elphaba's chocolate coloured eyes. Liir, is the oldest. Why wasn't he born with this curse?
Maybe it was because she was female, but Elphaba's sister, Nessarose, wasn't green. Nessa was a perfectly normal color.
Lurlinemas Eve was the day Elphaba went into labor. It was a long, and strenuous day. Because she and Fiyero had escaped from Oz, and were thought to be dead, they couldn't seek medical help. By 2:15am Lurlinemas day, Elphaba gave birth to a healthy little girl. There were many tears shed, which left burns on Elphaba's face, but she didn't care. Fiyero himself had cried. He was proud of his wife, she bared through the pain for many hours. Now it was time to relax. He wrapped the little one up in a blanket he had bought at a nearby flea market, and handed her to Fae.
It was dark, but Elphaba could see well enough to notice her daughters green skin. That's when her smile faded. Fiyero saw this immediately.
"What's wrong, Fae?" He spoke.
"She's green." Elphaba answered.
"She's beautiful." He uttered back.
"This is exactly why I didn't want anymore children, Yero." She shot, handing the baby back to Fiyero.
He didn't speak. He took the baby out of the room, and placed her in a cradle across the hall. He kissed her forehead and went back to Elphaba.
"Fae, honey. Do you want to talk about this?"
"No, Fiyero. I don't. I just need some time."
"Elphaba." He said sternly.
"No, Yero. I'm fine. I am."
He look at her with doubt. "I don't believe you."
"Fiyero Tiggular, as much as I love you you can be a little annoying." He laughed. "It's not funny!" She shouted.
"Shh, Liir's sleeping." He muttered.
She groaned. "I'm sorry, I'm just upset. Okay?"
"Why are you so upset?" He asked. "She's beautiful, just like you." He left the doorway and curled up next to her.
"Because." Elphaba started. "I didn't want our kids to have my complexion. I prayed everyday for the last nine months that she wouldn't be green. I though that because I went into labor on Lurlinemas, that Lurline had answered my prayers. I may not be religious but I thought it was a sign. After all the years of hearing my father speak of the Unnamed God, Lurline, Ozma and all the other gods and how they send signs. He would tell me everyday of my childhood that I would know I sign when I see it. I saw this, Yero. I was so confident."
He sighed, kissed her cheek and rubbed her arms. He tried his best to comfort her but nothing was working.
"You know Fae, this little girl still needs a name."
She didn't reply for a long while. It wasn't until daylight when Liir had woken them when she finally decided on a name.
Liir looked at Elphaba with his big round eyes. They had just presented his little sister to him. "Wow.." He whispered. "What's her name?"
Elphaba looked at Fiyero, and then back at Liir with a big smile. "Farah." She said.
"Farah.." Liir whispered, gazing at his little sister. "Can I hold her?" He asked.
Elphaba nodded. "Sit here." She said.
He sat in the big chair next to the tree. Elphaba handed her daughter to her son gently. She smiled at this.
She sat back next to Fiyero, both beaming at their children.
"Farah.." Fiyero whispered. "Farah.. Farah Sapphire." He said louder.
Elphaba looked up at him. "I love it." She said.
