“I have fantastic news that you should be jumping up and down to hear!” Koltyn, my best friend, yelled bursting through my door.
“Uh, Koltyn?”
“What?”
“How’d you get in here?” I questioned.
“The door,” he replied in a Duh tone.
“Well yeah I know that, but it was locked...” I trailed off as Koltyn held up my loft key.
“You hide it in the flowerpot outside your door. Anyone could guess that,” he said throwing my key back into the flowerpot outside my door. “Anyways, I have exciting news!”
“So you said.”
“I’ve met a girl!”
“Oh god...” I groaned.
“What?” he asked.
“Did you meet her on the internet again? Because last time you met a girl on the internet it turned out being a guy,” I replied, rolling my eyes.
“Are you talking about about Koltyn’s dating disaster life?” Lily asked walking through my door.
“How did you get in?!” I asked, a little irritated while Koltyn muttered that his dating life was not a disaster and plopped on my couch.
“Everyone knows you leave your key in the flowerpot...” she replied with a shrug of her shoulders.
“Just give me the key,” I said throwing my hands in the air.
“Well hello to you too,” Lily mumbled throwing me the key, “It’s not like I didn’t just get back from a week long vacation or anything.”
“You two are impossible,” I said while making my way into the kitchen. I made four turkey sandwiches, knowing Koltyn would eat two and probably half of Lily’s while she wasn’t looking, and poured three glasses of ice tea.
“Lunch!” I yelled and they immediately ran into the kitchen Koltyn jumping over the couch and Lily climbing over it. They reminded me of ten year olds.

“You are seriously the best friend ever,” Koltyn said with a mouthful of chocolate cheese cake.
“Ew! Don’t talk with your mouthful, sicko!” Lily scolded. At this Koltyn Opened his mouth and made a weird animal like noise in the back of his throat, causing Lily to squeal in disgust.
“So whats this about a girl, Koltyn?” I asked grabbing both of their plates and throwing the m into the dishwasher.
“Her names Kate and she’s the most wonderful, beautiful girl in the world,” Koltyn said, dreamily. Lily and I both looked at each other, rolling our eyes.
Let me explain. Koltyn had a tendency to fall for any girl that made eye contact with him. And of course him being one of those handsome players, he could get any girl he wanted. But unlike most players, he actually thought he loved them all.
“So if you’re in love with her whats her last name?” I asked, trying to hide my smirk, but failing. Koltyn was silent.
“You know I’m late... gotta go!” he rushed to stand up and leave. After he slammed the door shut Lily and I burst out laughing.
“So, is there anyone special in Ms. Montailing’s ever incredible life?” Lily asked wiggling her eyebrows. I turned away silently reaching for a glass in the cupboard and poured some milk.
“Ohmygod!” Lily yelped and jumped up, “There is, isn’t there?” I just looked down and blushed.
“What’s his name? Does he have blonde hair? Or brown? Is he handsome? Does he have facial hair? Where does he live?” Lily questioned immediately.
“Woah, woah, woah! Calm down!” I laughed, “We just met two days ago and all I know is that his name is Ryan and yes he is handsome.” Very handsome I thought to myself.
“So do you have a date with him or anything or did your awkwardness scare him away?” Lily joked.
“I honestly don’t know,” I said furrowing my brow, “He asked for my number and then said he would call me, but never did.” Lily and I were both silent for a while while I finished cleaning the kitchen.
“Hello?” I turned around and realized Lily was on the phone. I shot her a questioning glance and she mouthed “Erin”, her boyfriend.
“Yeah I can be there in about ten minutes,” she said her tone getting all peppy, “Okay see you then!”
“Where are you going?” I asked. as she got
“Erin wants to play Call of Duty with me,” she replied smiling from ear to ear.
“You don’t even play video games.”
“I know but he wants to teach me. Isn’t that sweet?” she said walking to the door.
“Adorable,” I muttered under my breathe, trailing behind her.
“We should have a girls and Koltyn night soon. We haven’t had one in awhile,” she smiled giving me a hug and then stepping out the door.
“Okay,” I smiled back at her.
“Cassie?”
“Yeah?”
“Don’t push us away again. Tell me if the nightmares come back, okay?” she asked, suddenly becoming serious.
“Okay, I will, I promise,” I gave her a soft smile. She hugged me once more and walked down the hall.
“I love you, Montailing!” she yelled over her shoulder.
“I love you too, Hass!” I shouted back laughing. I closed the door and leaned against it, sighing, yet still smiling. I had great friends.
Opening my eyes, I decided that since I had finished my classes for the day, that I could read for awhile. Walking up the spiral staircase in the corner of the living room, I flipped on the balcony lights.
The balcony in my loft was my favourite part. It wrapped all the way around the perimeter of the living room and kitchen. Against three walls were bookshelves as long as the wall. The fourth wall was made completely out of windows. I had beanie bags, regular comfy chairs, and some coffee tables up there. It was my favourite place to read.
I walked over to the coffee table that held my new book I had bought on Monday, Constable & Toop, and picked it up finding a spot for it on one of the shelves. I had finished it last night. Putting it next to Me, Earl & the Dying Girl, I ran my hand along the book shelves trying to find a new book to read. I had about one hundred books up here that I haven’t read and yet I couldn’t find one that I wanted to read. Smiling, I decided to make a quick trip to Tribeca.
And maybe, just maybe, I would see Ryan again.
