Upon the crest of the hill was a small gate, shrouded by the surrounding forest in tones of green and yellow.
The gate had no key, no barrier it was attached to. It guarded nothing but the trees that surrounded it, lonely and forgotten. The metal melting away into rust, orange and brown, gracing the twistings of metal. Everyone believed it was remanence of a forgotten time, or perhaps nothing but a trivial joke.
A small bird lands on the top of the gate everyday and calls out a silent song, not the song of sweetness and treble. It opens its pointed beak, and to a human observation, only a silence can ensue.
Reality of the silence was a call to a creature that could hear the birds call. The tones that the human ears had no business detecting, were gracefully embraced by the sort of embodiment that lurked beyond the reaches of the light, aspen covered forests.
Forests of darkness and dark lichen sticking to rocks of a rounded quality. Soft whispers that slither between the fogged over trees and the delicate mushrooms. Calling out for no one, only calling out to let know of their own presence, the way a child speaks to find its own voice.
The creature come from this place, pulling itself from the thorny brambles and vines that covered the forest floor. Its skin satin and muted under the cover of the trees. The body shaped in a human form, yet tall and cryptic. Elongated arms, clawed fingers, spindly legs. A wraith of an organism, an alluding ghost.
In the shadow, the creature came to the gate under the cover of night, summoned by the masked call of a sparrow, speckled in tawny and perched on rusted bars. By the time the creature arrived to the gate, it was dark under the smother blanket of the the night sky. Speckled with the stars of millions of galaxies. Billions of possibilities floating in ones glace up to the byond.
The creature set her hand on the bars, and pushed them open, and as she did so, an explosion of color erupted around her terrifying form. In the new light, the new expanse of a world in technicolor the creature could look down at her hands, seeing them come to the color and out of the murky light of the forest. A dark black soon became the shimmer of a dark navy blue, her skin gracing the sunlight that streamed down shamelessly. Satin of her skin catching in highlights of orange and purple, so subtle.
Glee rose through her body as she took off in a sprint towards the river she could hear in the distance. Lime green and soft yellow leaves surrounded her in the forest, stirring up and following her to the clear water that lay beyond.
To feel the water so fresh and happy upon her hands, the creature couldn't contain her laughter. Everyday was different, and today the gift of water was given to her. This realm held happiness between its trees, tranquility in its dirt, peace in its skies.
She lifted her face to the sky and threw the water around her. Her laugh a sprinkle of sunshine. She was back home, and could stay for the next hours ahead of her, all the wonders of a bright life ahead.
She was happy, and the gate had created everything in light.
