Prologue
Centuries ago, Lycans roamed the earth. Legend says they were magnificent creatures. Their bodies were hard and stronger than any metal, their speed was unmatched, and their strength was unimaginable. They were believed to be incredibly tall, as if they walked with the trees. Their jaws held teeth so sharp it could slice through anything, and if it dared to bite down whatever was held in its mouth could only hope for boon.
These beasts were ruthless and cunning with no sense of mercy for any being, not even their own. Every full moon they would go on a rampage, killing and raping anything they wished to. The humans who were unlucky enough to cross the Lycan's paths during those hours fell victim to their assaults. Especially the women.
The witches didn't appreciate this behavior at all. They had watched it happen for over a decade and had decided they would put a stop to it. They were what kept all creatures on earth in balance; it was their duty to fix the reoccurring tragedy. During the following full moon the witches casted a spell that caused every human woman raped by a lycan to fall pregnant with its child.
This phenomenon caused uproar between both species. The women that had given birth to the Lycans children were dismayed. The creation resembled an abomination. It was a mixture of the beast and the mortals. There was no known accurate account of how the children looked but it is agreed that they were hideous. The lycans rejected the foreign creatures and the humans did the same. The hybrid beasts were left isolated from both species and only left to themselves. Hundreds of them were left to fend for themselves and find their own way beyond their rejection.
They couldn't be killed as they had lycan blood running through their veins so execution wasn't possible. After the first births the lycans stopped raping the human women. They were the only of their kind. They could only rely on one other to survive, and that's exactly what they did. The hybrids began to mate and create something of their own. The new hybrid species was expected to continue through the mating. A nation of hybrids was at a high possibility. But that isn't what happened. The babies of the hybrids resembled humans. No trace of lycan was visible in them. This shocked the witches and the hybrids themselves.
It seemed that science and magic had mixed together, no explanation for the creation was found. Once thirteen full moons had passed from the birth of the hybrids children it was discovered that their offspring shape shifted. The transformation was from a human to a beastly wolf. Again, this confused the witches as the offspring were descendants of lycans and humans- not wolves. The transformation wasn't understood and never heard of.
It was later believed that lycans must have descended from the wolves and transformed from that to the extraordinary beasts they were known as. And this genetic trait was singled out by the joining of the hybrids, along with the weaker human trait.
A century passed and the Lycans had disappeared, no one knows what had happened to them. They just vanished. The offspring of the hybrids grew and would mate and this would continue from generation to generation until the hybrids were forgotten to. Then, only one descendant of the lycan was left. The werewolves: half human, half wolf, born from the blood of the lycan and the human. They were new creatures to be feared. But that was only if you knew of their existence.
Working on intelligence the werewolves disguised their existence from their human counterparts. After the mayhem that happened with the witches and mortals, trials and public executions wasn't something they felt they needed or wanted.
They had succeeded for more centuries. They lived as a human for most of their life and kept their wolf identity a secret. Until the hunters came around. No one knows how they learned of their existence but they did. No one believed the hunters' accusations at first, until a group of them caught their very own werewolf. And, since then, the relationship between the human and werewolf hadn't been the same.
In the modern world the existence of werewolves isn't something obscene or extraordinary. It is only a problem that the humans had planned to solve. They decided as a whole they were going to execute every beast they encountered until the werewolves were no longer a reality and only a tale of the past. With their advanced technology and knowledge they were succeeding. The werewolf species was going extinct by creatures that were less than them in biology. The chance of surviving lied only in their hands.
