Dresses: What's In

There are many choices to choose from. You've got maxi, Summer, cocktail, evening, jumper, and many more. But let's talk about the latest trend in the dress world.

Last Summer it was cute little Summer dresses. The Summer before that it was whatever you could pull off. Now it's maxi dresses. I find maxi dresses to be comfortable and they make a person look taller. Also, its good for those that don't like to show some leg or if you do then there are some that have a small slit up the side. Pair this dress with a cross-body bag, some strappy sandals and you're ready for the day. Its as simple as that.

Some have their doubts about wearing one, thinking it'll look bad on them. Well I'll give you some advice for just about any outfit. Confidence is key. Always be confident in yourself. Wear what you want to wear. Not what someone else wants you to wear. I've seen many comments on how it looks better on tall and thin girls. Which by the way I am not. I'm 5'5 and a bit chunky, but I rock this dress like no tomorrow. If I believe I can wear it and be confident wearing it then so can you!

Also, I'd love for some feedback on this item of clothing. Whether you wear it and what you pair it up with or the reason that you don't like it.

Make Up

One thing that always fascinates me about Summer break is the amount of makeup girls cake on to their faces. I'm on instagram and I see pictures of girls my age with their hair curled or straightened, wearing outstanding makeup, yet they're in their bikinis in front of a pool with captions that are along the lines of "about to swim" and " #summerlovin". It's common knowledge that if you're wearing mascara, unless it's amazingly waterproof, it will run and make you look like a drowning racoon. So, why would you put on full makeup including, but not limited to: foundation, blush, mascara, eyeliner, and eyeshadow if you're going to swim? And to put the cherry on top, do your hair? Do these girls realize that their makeup will run, and their hair will be ruined? They probably do, but they just don't realize that they can still look good without having racoon eyes during the Summer.

The odds have shown that during the hot Summer season, you will sweat. A lot. So, instead of caking on that foundation and powder, an easy alternative is tinted moisturizer. The tint will add a Summer time glow without caking your face in a lot of unnecessary makeup. At the same time your face will be soft and still feel clean. Physicians Formula Organic Wear Tinted Moisturizer ($11.99 on ulta.com) is the best for your skin, as it is 100% paraben, fragrance, synthetic color, and cruelty free. It has SPF 15, which is always a good thing if you're going to be spending any time outside.

If you're swimming, stick to only the moisturizer and if you feel like you need a little lift in your eyes, try Maybelline Lash Discovery Waterproof Mascara ($6.99 on soap.com) It works as normal mascara would, and the small brush makes sure to include little hairs that your normal mascara can't. Plus, it washes away easily with makeup remover. By not including any other makeup you create a simple look.

Now the hair... Ladies, I'm begging you. Please, for the love of all that's good on this earth, don't waste your time with straightening or curling your hair for the pool or for exercising. I know ponytails can get boring, which is why in order to avoid the basic ponytail, which is never really a bad thing, add a little spice to it. If you can wear a ponytail, you can do a braid crown. Heck, I have a pixie cut and I can do a braid crown. For the chic and simple look, all you have to do is start a french braid on one side of your head and keep the braid going around your head until you run out of hair. If you want something a bit more complicated, you can add more braids to it. You can finish the look by braiding the rest of your hair, or putting it into a ponytail. For a stronger and longer lasting hold, hair clays and mousses are commonly used. I prefer to use Garnier Fructis Curl Construct Mousse ($3.49 on target.com) or Beyond the Zone Rock On Matte Clay. ($5 on storehouse.phlcollins.com) Both provide equal amount of hold, the biggest difference being the consistency. The clay is harder to work with due to the texture, whereas with the mousse you need only to put a dime size in the palm of your hand and spread throughout your hair.

Now that you have some super chic ideas for your Summer break, you can put down that remote and turn off your Orange is the New Black marathon and catch some sun! Of course, you don't want to get too much. Be sure to wear sunscreen as this will help prevent skin cancer and the chances of burning up. Almost everything by Banana Boat smells super delish, while giving you that protection you need.

So turn up your favorite Summer playlist and get out there. You look fabulous and you're ready for all the adventures Summer has in store for you.
