Well today is the day. I’m gonna ask Melea out. We’ve been flirting and playing around in theater class for about 2 weeks now. It’s time to make my move. God, why am I so nervous. I would love to help you.” She says. “Oh, great.” Get it to-fuckin-gether Jermaine Cole. “Well actually what I wanted to ask you was-“ “Oh, I’m sorry Jermaine, I havta go to the library. I’ll see you later.” She interrupts. “Oh, okay, yeah. I’ll see you later.” She walks away. I'm feeling a bit of relief as i eat...pudding? Mashed potatoes? Whatever the fuck this is..
1:03, before 7th period.
I stop Melea in the hallway. And breathe. “Look, I wasn’t really tryin to ask you if you’d help me with my math.” I tell her. She giggles “I kinda figured that out. What were you tryin to tell me?” “I was tryin to tell you that I really like you and I wantyoutogooutwithme.” I say quickly. “Uh, what did you say?” “Iwantyoutogooutwithme.” I say again. “No J, slow it down. Say it again.” I take a deep breath. “Will you go out with me this Friday night?” I strangle out.
She smiles a really big smile. Her smile is so beautiful. But then she frowns. Oh my God what’s wrong? “I’d love to go out with you on Friday J but I already have plans. I’m sorry.” She says.
The bell rings and we rush into class.
