I yawned, glancing towards the beaten up clock on my nightstand. It read in its futuristic type, 5:34 am. I was late, but I didn't really care, I was going to get punished anyways at some point during the day.

I shoved my vest on, along with my usual breaches, and padded down the stairs, trying not to wake up my mo--

"PLEXOU!" My darling mother screeched at the top of her lungs. "YOU WOKE ME UP!"

She pounded down the stairs and stepped an inch from my face. "DO YOU KNOW HOW MUCH OF A BAD NIGHT I'VE HAD?!"

"No," I mumbled, looking at the floor, pretending to be sorrowful, but I was just bored. She did this every other morning, and I was used to it now.

"Now go to your fucking work, like Fortia does without question!" She screamed in my face, but the only thing that sunk into my heart was the 'work' part. She knew I worked my butt off everyday, allday.

I slowly walked to the workroom, a mahogany shed-like building filled with sewing machines one stitch away from breaking apart.

I plopped down my usual chair, and reached for a yard of heavy, navy blue fabric and a box filled with decretive diamonds on my desk to start on a cloak for some rich guy I had never heard of when my brother snatched my hand away from the box and took it for himself.

"Ah ah ah, Plexou," He sneered, "You know you can't steal those."

My hands clenched into white fists, begging me to use my reflexes to reach for a knife and show my asshole brother a lesson. Of course I didn't, that would just earn me a beating, or a needle stabbed into my hand.

Suddenly Kailo, my sweet 6 year old sister came skipping into the room, and my heart melted at her soft happy expression.

She rushed over to my table, and started gushing about a big blue butterfly that was perched on the fence and how I just had to see it.

I chuckled, "I would love to, little butterfly, but I have to work," I told her apolicellitcly, my eyebrows pressed together and I gave her a sad smile, "If you find another one later I would love to--"

"PLEXOU!" My mother screamed, "GET YOUR ASS BACK TO WORK."

I clenched my teeth, and said through gritted teeth, "I thought we weren't saying bad words around Kailo, Mom," I said through gritted teeth. 

"I CAN SAY WHATEVER THE HELL I WANT." She screams again, stepping forward into my space.

I grimace, but hold my ground. "Aren't you supposed to be setting a good example for your children, Mother?" I replied angrily, and took Kailo's hand, storming out the door in a huff. I imagined myself looking like an angry bird, all fluffed up.

I turned around to Kailo and forced a soft smile onto my face, and whispered softly, "Do you want to go on an adventure?" I asked her, making my voice light with excitement.

"Yes, yes, yes, yes!!" She squeaked, with more enthusiasm I would expect from a tiny little body like hers.

I leaned close to her, bending nearly in half to reach her eye level. "Here's the challenge; You have to find a blue butterfly, an orange beetle, and one apple!" I watched with amusement as she nearly burst with excitement.

She ran away, towing me after her.

She dragged me through the townsquare, and I paused, watching with dismay as I saw a fight break out, between the Orangutan Hybrids and Bighorn Sheep Hybrids, crowds of each species yelling and screaming for their own.

But soon I was pulled away from it, Kailo too excited to notice the fight.

Or the person she swung me into.

I was suddenly pulled back to with a alarming zap, what i realized in dismay, Princess Gari.

Shit.

We looked at each other in shock, and we quickly fast-walked behind a boulder. "So..." She started, "Should we figure this out and meet again?" She asked slowly.

"I-I guess..." I said, wishing I could hide under my mini head cloak.

She turned, and left in a hurry, waving goodbye.

I had never had someone.... Make the effort to wave me goodbye.

It felt amazing.

Oooh, if a departing wave makes little Plexi feel amazing, what else does?
