Ella Fryer worked hard. Harder than anyone in Hogwarts. To her, if she didn't work hard enough she wouldn't have a place at the school of magic. It's hard enough as a muggle-born, but it's even harder when her family can hardly afford her school books. So, Ella does what she does best, works hard.
She will do anything: clean for the house elves, tutor other students, feed the magical creatures, clean the classrooms, assist the teachers. Anything that will help her and her family. Her hard work earned her the name of Cinderella.
Dean Thomas notices the pattern of seeing Ella working nonstop, and it intrigues him. It intrigues him enough for him to volunteer to help Ella scrub the Kitchens after a grand Halloween feast. Then he really meets Ella, not just the Cinderella everyone calls her.
