Chapter 2: Starting In Oath Forest
Nora began digging in her closet. Luna and I were waiting impatiently on the bed. At first, Nora took out stuff that seems normal to take to a dark forest. Things like first aid kits, flashlights. Then she took out abnormal machinery. It was hard to explain how each apparatus worked. After she was finish taking all the things that were necessary for the trip to the forest, she began to explain how the things work.
"Sorry it took long. You might think this is weird, but believe me, you are going to need all this stuff. Here's a book. It explains what you need on a trip like this," Nora said to me.
The book was entitled, "Your Guide to Oath Forest by Altamar Junction." I began to sweep through the endless pages of the book. I stopped at a page. It showed the control panel, which is in the Oath Forest. That's what gears probably mean in the passage of the book. "To start, you must face your fear. Then it will guide you to the gear," as it says in the book. I started to read the page of the book that Nora handed to me.
"The control panel is a machine that controls the condition of the moon. It can cause the moon to stop its light(in some condition, too much moonlight can create a disease), control the temperature of the moon, and also show where the moon is and show its internal structure. The control panel is blocked by a plasma shield, where only the chosen moonlight heir can get inside. If the control panel is broken, or breaks, it can cause the moon to freeze. In that case, only the moonlight heir can restore the moon and another control panel will be made," the book says.
I close the book, and packed all of Nora's wacky contraptions in her bag. I waited for both of the girls to finish packing. As they were finishing, the morning news was on the ground. I picked it up and read the words. By the time I was finish reading, they were finish.
"Were ready Lidia. You can handle the flashlight since the other items might be too complicated to handle," Luna said.
Her body was shivering, as if she was scared of going to the forest. I didn't know what to expect in Oath Forest. Will a Elite Looter try to rob us, or harm us in any way? I felt scared, but at the same time, confident of reaching the control panel. But I didn't tell Nora and Luna about the panel. I knew the panel was in the middle of the forest.
We went downstairs, back to the family. I forgot about the noise, and it jolt me with surprise. We walk to the door but before we went out to head to the forest, I thought we should tell at least Gurta where we're going.
"Hey Nora, Luna, I'm going to go somewhere first, okay." I told the girls.
"Okay, hurry up though. We're running out of time," Nora said with impatience.
I walked to Gurta, and she stared at me with a deviant face.
"Where are you going? Looks like you made a few friends in the family," Gurta said.
"Yes, I'm going to Oath Forest. I have to start there to save the moon," I said as politely.
"I don't think you should go there, it's pretty dangerous. But if it's for the moon," Gurta warned.
I went back to the girls as quickly as I can. Nora was impatiently waiting, as Luna stared at the blank walls.
"What took you so long? Let's go!" Nora said. We head outside, feeling very uncertain of what the forest might be like.
We passed a few villages. Many people greeted me as if I was their queen. I felt special, more than my stepmother ever made me feel. I felt important. I felt like I was part of something bigger. We reached the dark forest, and I became frozen stiff. I didn't expect the forest to be this dark. The trees swayed like little monsters haunting my body. Was I intruding their habitat?
