Throwing my paperwork and briefcase into my car I start the agonizing 40-minute drive home.
"She must've known that I was already having a hard day and just wanted to make it worse." Grumbling to myself as I enter the highway, I catch a glimpse of a car on the side of the highway with a family sitting behind it with a man on the phone. I decide to pull over to see what was going on because I wasn't in a rush to get home.
"Excuse me? Are you alright?" I ask the man clearly frustrated at his phone or something to do with the phone.
He looks up and just about runs to me.
"Oh, thank God! Someone actually stopped! Praise the Lord!" He's almost in tears as I reach out to help make sure he doesn't topple over.
" Tell me what happened. It doesn't look like you were in a wreck, did your battery die?" I ask gesturing to the car.
"Oh yes kind sir our battery died! We need to get home; my daughter has a cold, and I don't want it to get any worse." Clearly worried, I look over at the small infant in the mother's arms. Helping them wouldn't cost a thing why hadn't anyone stopped?
Getting the spare cables from my car I hook up my battery to theirs and jumpstart their car until it's up and running again.
"Oh, thank you thank you sir!" The man almost got down on his hands and knees with gratitude when I stopped him."No need to thank me, I just wanted to help. Now, go home and take care of your daughter and wife." I gestured to the woman climbing into the car still cradling the baby girl.
"I will never forget your kindness sir." The man said getting into his car and driving back into the highway.
I sigh as I know I have to get back home after the nicely timed distraction. I get back into my car and start the drive home... again.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I unlock my apartment door and slide off my shoes while turning on the lights. It's quiet... too quiet. Slowly walking to my desk and putting my shit on it I walk around the house to see where Natalya was hiding but couldn't find her anywhere. That's probably why it was so quiet. I sigh in relief knowing my apartment was mine even just for a week or two.
*grrrrrrrr*
"What the fuck was that?!" Turning on the bathroom light I find a small puppy in a little crate.
Curious I bend down to look inside and there a small black and white dog stood defensive in its little cage.
I don't own a dog; I've never had a dog in my whole life why is there a dog in the bathroom of my LOCKED apartment?!
I stand up in shock and notice a little piece of paper on top of the cage. It read:
'Dear my darling son,
Natalya called me and said you've been spending too much time at your work. I'm disappointed in you, you should be spending more time with your girlfriend! When is the wedding? You have to get things rolling I want grandchildren! Anyway, since Natalya is always flying around to different counties for her glorious photo shoots, I thought you needed a friend! You have no friends you talk to besides your fellow English teachers.
So! In order for you to go out and socialize with actual people I got you a dog! I'm expecting you to take good care of him and if I hear you have returned him, I'm going to come down there and move in with you!
Love you my son xoxo xoxo much love,
Mommy'
