Chapter 1-
With me is my best friend, Abby. A six year old named Connor, and an elder woman around the age of 60 or 70, Sarah. Then there is me, Elizabeth. Or Ellie.
Doesn't sound like much of an army does it? Well were not an army. We are only meer survivers. We had a girl in her twenties that died recently. Her name was Hope. Well atleast that was her middle name. She hated going by her first name, Nora. Kinda strange right? Hope is dead. Its pretty awful I find this a little ironic. She didn't return after she went to town to get some supplies, so we assume she is either hiding and unable to get back to us or they got to her. Point is, we don't think we will see her again. I actually kinda liked Nora/Hope.
This has been going on for around two weeks. I don't know where else its happening if its happening anywhere else. We live in a town far from regular civilization in Texas. We were a big town with grocery stores and a very small mall. Even a few resturaunts and family owned buisnesses. Most people had no reason to leave town because everything was pretty much right here.
We are camped out on a hill that over looks the town, and we aren't very skilled with weapons, yet. I know how to shoot a bow and arrow pretty well, but seriously, what good would that do for me to defend myself against something thats already dead. I would need something to cut there head off, but I haven't gotten any guns or swords or knives yet.
Abby can shoot a gun pretty well, she is the only one of us that has a pistol from her house that she brought with us. She plans on getting more guns eventually from town. She will need ammo, so we have to risk everything to get there anyway.
Sarah is to feeble to do much but she gathers food real well. I don't know how much time she has left though. Things arent looking to good for her. She has fallen down quite a bit, and has breathing trouble. I really don't want to loose her. Its nice to have an adult figure around now considering Abby and I are only 15.
Then theres Connor. Connor I'm sure has potential. Smart too. I'm glad he isn't doing anything to serious yet though. He is way to young.
We don't have a leader of our group either. Which is nice. Leaders can be a real pain.
I have noticed a few other groups of survivors attack zombies on their own, head on from the top of the hill. I wouldn't say they turned out to well. Maybe a few got away, but only a few. To bad too, because they had atleast twenty people, most adults.
Abbys parents were at work which is atleast 30 minutes outisde of town. They were supposed to be home at 5, but Abby and I were running on the roofs of houses trying to get away long before 5.
My parents were out of town, in a completely different state. My dad's uncle died so he and my mom went to the funeral service all the way in Nebraska. I never met my dad's uncle so I was staying with Abby until my parents got back. My mom was 4 months pregnant. I don't even know if it will be my brother or sister. If they are still aive in Nebraska.
I try not to think of it that way, but what other way is there to think of it?
I guess from here on we will just see what happens. I am dreading my second trip back to town. The first trip was barely a trip. I barely set foot in town before sprinting back through the forest and up the hill. I was considering looking for Nora. But forget that, I don't want to die just to confirm that she is gone.
We sleep on blankets that Nora had gotten us before, and we know how to build a fire. Texas is pretty moody when it comes to weather. We can get snow in April and two weeks later be dieing of heat. It can be a sunny day and have it turn to a very big storm with high winds. But ever since we've been camped out here, the weather has been very neutral. Afterall, it was fall time.
To sum everything up, we haven't been doing to bad out here. Not ocunting Connor being stung by a bee only a few days ago. Luckily, nothing serious happend. It didn't get infected or anything. Thank the lord. I don't know if I would have had the guts to go back into town only like two days after Nora dissapeared too.
Atleast I will have Abby at my side.
I tie my thing blonde hair back and even pinned my bangs back to be extra safe.
"Ellie? Are you ready to go?" Abby asked loading her pistol with her second to last set of bullets. Her hair is a thick deep brown, and she had it braided. I have always described Abby as beautiful. She has deep brown eyes, tan skin, and full lips. She says I'm pretty, which I am, but compared to her I disagree. I have blue-gray eyes, pale skin and dirty blonde hair. Abby is slightly taller than me too.
"I guess this is as ready as I'm going to get." I tried to hide my fear as much as possible.
"Don't be afraid! No one is going to touch you. Believe me." She smiles cocking the gun.
It only takes us ten minutes to run through the woods to town. I have my bow and arrows strapped to my back just for the heck of it. Atleast I can maybe distract the things that await us.
We wait on the out skirt of the forest, and we see nothing walking slowly or moaning or anything.
"Huh, thats weird." Abby said peeking through the brush.
"You don't say." I joke.
"Wait, looks like I spoke to soon." Abby's voice went to a whisper and she ducked down even lower pulling me down with her.
I finally saw what she was seeing, one of them was limping down the sidewalk. They looked about only a few years older than Abby and I. Lucky for us, he didn't hear us.
As he passed, Abby jerked me up to where we were standing. I grabbed her hand and we both quietly stepped around the bushes. We looked left and right, kinda like when we would look both ways so we didn't get hit by a car or something. Except this time we are trying not to be spot by anyone. I wish we knew if they had great hearing or could smell us or something. That would make it easier for us to creep around.
" Good thing the gun store is right across the street from that one cupcake bakery" I said.
"Well lets go I guess." Abby said.
We walked slowy down the street to the cupcake bakery we used to go to alot. We saw at least 6 of them moaping around, but they didn't see us.
"So far so good." I smiled trying to brighten the mood.
"Yeah." Abby laughed.
I looked in the window of the cupcake shop.
"Hey! Look!" I yell/whispered.
"What?" Abby looked through the window next to me.
They had cases of cupcakes in the refridgerator.
"Maybe we could bring home a treat?" I joked.
"Do it." Abby said, dead serious tone.
"What?"
"Get us a treat, we deserve it."
Abby and I even had a part time job here before. We worked for 3 months and then quit for school. So we knew where they kept the key.
"Above the door." I said.
Abby, taking the hint jumped and grabbed the key that was on top of the door. We unlcoked it and quietly walked in.
"SHIT!" Abby said as the bell rung. The bell normally isn't very loud but it was with the dead silence outside.
We quickly closed the door and dived behind the counter.
A few seconds passed as I stood up and peeked through the door. A couple of them were out there now, but unsure where the sound came from. Therefore, Abby and I were good for now, but we have to wait untill the attention dies down. Theres no way the zombies will know the sound came from this store.
"What are you doing here?" A voice came from behind me and Abby.
