It seemed like a normal car ride home. I could've sworn everything was normal, until a sudden argument insued between my parents. I was half asleep and couldn't hear; nor understand why, but I was afraid. This fear grew inside me until I bursted into tears, unable to control my emotions any longer.
"Look what you're doing! Our son is crying!" shouted my mother, while trying to control the car. "I HEAR THAT! PULL OVER! I NEED TO LEAVE!" my step-father shouted back even louder. He was obviously intoxicated, but that wasn't anything new. I'd be surprised if he wasn't. "WE'RE ON THE FREEWAY HOW DO YOU EXPECT ME TO PULL OVER!" My mother replied, seeming as scared as I was. "I DON'T CARE! PULL OVER!" The argument seemed to get increasingly louder with every reply.
My step-father was getting furious. He was tired of my tears of fear, and the argument in general between my mother and him. He cracked. He suddenly took the wheel from my mother, and swerved it to the left. A scream came from my mother, while the sound of a horn grew in vollume.
Crash
Everything went black.
I was awoken from my unconsciousness by a barrage of shouts, and a shot of pain went through my sides. I got over it, and looked around. The car was upside down, seats torn, airbags busted. I could only imagine how the outside looked. "Hey! There's someone else in here!" A group of men came towards the car. "Hey buddy! You're gonna be okay! We're gonna get you out of there!" They did so (rather easily) and took me to an ambulance that was nearby. The paramedics checked me out. Thankfully I had no serious injuries; only a few cut's and bruises.
As soon as he saw that I looked better, the officer that was talking to me earlier approached me. "Hey man. You look a lot better." He stated, looking at me with a smile. "I guess." I replied, still trying to gather my mind. "So, how did this happen?" he asked. That question was expected, but I was still out of it. I made an attempt to answer. "Well we were just driving home, when my step-father and my mo-"
My thoughts came together and I immediately started freaking out. "My mother..... Where is my mother? Mom? MOM? WHERE ARE YOU?" I looked around, frantically, trying to locate her. The officer turned to me. "Kid... I'm sorry to tell you... but your mother... The crash....." He tried desperately not say the word. "Don't tell me... she died?" The tears already started forming. "I'm afraid so." I broke down. I was in more pain than I was coming from the accident. The officer looked puzzled all of a sudden.
"Hey kid, I'm sorry, but did you say someone else was in the car?"
I answered between my sobs. "Y-Y-Y-Yes... M-My Step-Father"
The officer looked at me. "But you and your mother were the only two people in the car when we got here." He then spoke into his radio "Attention. The kid told me that there was someone else in the car. He may be walking around injured." He then turned back to me. "Don't worry kid, we'll find your father." Part of me hoped he didn't. I was still crying from the devestating news. I didn't want the man who killed my mother around me.
As far as I was concerned... He was dead to me.
