Chapter 1

The waves beat out a steady beat as I prop my surfboard in the shade and head into my family's beach house.

“Hey Mom, I'm back.” I say. She's sitting on the couch folding her and my Dad's clothes.

“Okay Ku‘uipo(sweetheart). Pack up your bags, we're leaving this afternoon you know.”

I roll my eyes into the back of my head at this because it's only the millionth time I've heard it in two days.

“Got it Mom.” I say with a sigh. Maybe I should put some fake spiders in the coffee? I drag myself up the worn stairs and flop on my bed. I absentmindedly pull out my phone and start scrolling through web pages, until I see something that stops my thumb in its tracks.

A photography competition! This is perfect for Sage.

I immediately take a screenshot of the website and send it to my BFF. I can basically see her thoughts radiating through the screen. If she enters and places in this competition, maybe her parents will take her “hobby” seriously and let her drop violin. Plus the winner gets to go on shoots with magazines and I know Sage’s favorite subject is people.

I read her reply. “THANK YOU! This is perfect. When you get back from Hawaii, you are going to sit really still in meadows and pose. And DON'T try to get out of this, you owe me one for bailing you out of that prank you pulled.”

I roll my eyes(again) and text, “Whatever, my smile's ready when you are. Gotta pack, text you when I get back home.”

I toss my phone on my dresser and head into the bathroom. I take a brisk shower in order to get all the salt out of my long hair. When I get out, I study myself in the mirror. At school I'm know for my pranks not my looks, but even I have to admit, I have changed a lot this summer. I have “blossomed” as my mother puts it. My dark blue eyes pop against my tan skin and freckles that run across my nose across my nose. I cringe, contorting my face as I run a comb through my tangled hair.

Once I'm done with that torturous pain I relax and flash my famous mischievous smirk and then my beaming innocent smile(always have an innocent one).

I pack up my stuff and once I'm done with that mind numbing task(seriously I hate packing), I head down to town with my family to say goodbye to my grandma and numerous cousins. After a tearful aloha, my dad, my mom, and me head for the airport.

Hello this is my first book and chapter. I know that a lot of writes add pictures of the characters, but I will not, I will leave the imagining to the readers. Also, you will get more information about the characters in later chapters. Thanks for reading!!!
