As the tears continuously pour down my cheeks, I knew in that moment he was gone. As I left the room, I look back, I see him lying on the table, lifeless and frail. My sister and father followed as we made our way out of the practice, I couldn't stop crying and my sister ran to her boyfriend as he embraced with cuddles and love holding her as she cried. I looked around I see a window with the blinds open, I walk slowly towards the window, wiping back the tears, I see something, it's him. He's still there. I look closely through the window, seeing him there, so peaceful and sleeping. I tried holding back the tears, but I couldn't. I saw him move slowly as it was a reaction to what has happened. I try and shout but can't. I hope he's alive and someone can hear me, but they can't.
It was a quite drive home, me and dad sat there in silence, not knowing what to say. I get home waiting to be greeted with a wagging tail or a bark, and nothing just bitter silence. It felt so strange, I upstairs not wanted to talk just wanting to sleep and hoping I'd wake up from this nightmare, hoping it wasn't real and I'd wake up and he would be there again. I fall asleep after tossing and turning trying to forget the events, I couldn't. I would close my eyes and only seconds later I see his body lying there with his paw hanging over the side. I wake up, a couple of hours later wondering what's going on and why is there music playing loudly and the sound of crying in the background. I walk slowly down the stairs and look for him, wondering where he's gone, and I ask, I ask where he is and my parents look at me and my mum bursts into tears again.
I went back upstairs and wanting to curl up in a ball and just hoping id see his face again. I remember when he jumped on my bed for hugs and would lie on my bed next to me or sleep at my feet. I remember telling him my day and telling him secrets as he'd lie there listen like the friend I never had. I remember coming home from school and him greeting me after a bad day and my mood would change and I'd smile knowing I'd came home to him. The colour of his coat which was colours of chocolate and caramel, his little beady eyes which where the colours of rich and dark chocolate. The longingly look when you'd open the fridge hoping with excitement that you'd give him a treat.
He was more than just a dog, he was a sibling and above all, a friend.
