Looking around the school courtyard and parking lots I begin to see students in their hundreds rushing to get into the buildings. Surrounded in small chatter and footsteps.
The school compared to others doesn't really house many students. At a small estimate I'd say there would be three hundred students in this school of all ages. For a school that's huge, it could definitely hold a lot more students of it wanted to. However by living in a small town meant that not many people would come here.
"Nicole!" A familiar voice screams excitedly from somewhere around the courtyard. Then a girl figure begins to push her way through the crowd and towards me. It was Jess! She looked amazing as her blond wavy hair was placed into a messy bun and her brown eyes looking at me. Today she's wearing a blue short sleeve top with some tidy black skirt and heels. Boy I'd bet she could pull of any sort of style if she wanted. I'm such a very lucky person in that regards. Her natural flawless beauty could make any boring girl like me jealous. At some point I actually was but she helped bring out the confide in my self. So those selfish feelings left me a very long time ago.
"Hey Jess!" I shouted back as she came to my side. Her slight small figure wraps me in a tight huge as a large face was covered with a bright large smile on her face.
"How are you doing today!" She asks happily before releasing her tight hold grip. "Doing good until that hug" I replied laughingly as she showed her tongue at me. Her characteristics is always full of childishness. Not matured in the slightest which is one of the main reasons we are friends.
"You ready for tonight?" She asks me as we both begin to head towards the school. "Yup but I'm wondering if you are Jess. I know how you are like every time we do something such as this." Jess shook her bed in response as we entered the building.
"Yeah but that was last year! I'm totally ready this time!" She replied in a sassy like tone. "Like last year? Come on we was watching that film and you cried more than once. This year we are doing worse so are you sure?" I questioned her. Making sure to express my concern within the tone of my voice. Her heads turns towards the ground in response before she looks back up with a smile. "I'll be fine! This time I will be brave!" She replies. Her voice holding slight fear amongst the other times in her voice.
Every year for halloween me and Jess comes up with a challenge to either watch or do something that is extremely frightening. It's our friend tradition that's happened ever since we was young.
Sure Jess may seem confident now but every year she always becomes very timid and frightened. That's just the way she is. Her behaviour is childlike and always wanting fun. However being scared over certain things and people always gets to her. Definitely not the bravest of people out there.
"Yeah? Are you sure you won't react the usual way?" I continued. "N...no I won't!" She stutters. Obviously she's in denial and I know for definite that it's not the case. Halloween is her least favourite holiday but to me it is absolutely the best. People going out! Gathering sweats from neighbours and dressing up in costumes without any questions arising. That's basically the only reason why she agreed to this. So she could make me happy even at the cost of her own. Which is why she's the best!
Not many people would go out of there way. But Jess would do anything for me as I would for her. Even if that meant getting in to trouble which happens a lot.
This year we are going to spend the night at the apparent haunted house that stands at the end of our street. A car drive way leads to this house but it's be boarded off from the public. Everyone tends to avoid the area. Which makes it the perfect place to do our little dare. But from what we heard people that go there never returns being the same again. They speak of ghost and objects that move from one place to another. Which makes it perfect to explore for our dare.
"So does your parents even know what you're going to do tonight?" Jess asks me quietly. "Obviously not. They'd keep me from ever leaving the house if they ever found out that we'd be going there!" I replied. My parents are overly strict with me. Although they don't care about what we do at home. They always want to know where I am twenty four seven. Never gives me break from it so this year I'm sneaking out from the house.
She frowns at me while we head towards our locker area of the school. "So what happens if we get stuck inside! No one will know where we would be!" She panics slightly as we reach our lockers. I roll my eyes at her. Slightly irritated from her reaction. "We aren't going to be locked inside Jess. If we can get in certainly we can go back out." She's panicking about this in the middle of the hall way. It's going to bring unwanted attention if she keeps this argument going. "You don't know that!" Jess exclaimed. A few people turn to face us as people begin to look.
"Shh! Keep your voice down will you. You'll bring unnecessary attention towards us" I told Jess calmly. She turns around. Looking at the crowd who is now focused on us. "Oh...Sorry!" She chuckles. From looking at her you could see the nervousness within her as she trembles slightly. But is slowly calming down due to the situation.
"How about we talk about this later. Classes will begin soon and we don't need to be stressed out this second in time." Jess seemed to relax slightly at my response as I open the small locker and bring out a small pile of school books. "Alright. I guess we can leave it for now. Can't believe you dragged me into this though Nicole" Jess spoke out then laughs afterwards. "Yep which is why you're my number one friend" I proclaimed quietly. Causing her to blush slightly in response.
I give her a small smile as I close the locker and put the books in my bag. The school bell rang loudly throughout the hallways alerting everyone that lessons has began. Crowds of people begin to rush off in different directions and the chattering turned into loud footsteps.
"Okay that's my que!" See you lats!" Jess yells out before dashing away from me. Her body slowly fading against the crowd. What a great friend leaving me behind. Never mind though, off to class I go.
One thing for sure though! Tonight will definitely be epic and fun. Even with Jess I know that it will be a huge blast. With my friend besides me nothing could ever really go wrong.
