As soon as Richie stepped off the train, all five of his senses were bombarded with new scents, sights, tastes, feelings, and sounds.
The indulgent scents of lemon and mint seemed to sting the inside of his nose in a way he had not been able to imagine. It was almost as if he could feel it flowing through his bloodstream like an ocean wave, cleansing him inside and out.
As he adjusted his glasses, his eyes settled on the all the people crowded around the different trains arriving. He thought these trains must have been coming from the other districts.
Bright colors emerged left and right from the outfits of the Capitol people as a herd of them circled around Richie and Bev. Cameras flashed, nearly blinding them as they were escorted through the boisterous crowd. Richie had never been around so many people at once.
He looked to his left, noticing what he thought could be two other tributes. He studied them carefully, attempting to conclude if they would be dangerous.
The boy was only slightly shorter than Richie had been (Richie was a fast grower, almost 6 foot by now). The strange boy had a very muscular build and broad shoulders where the back of his fawn-colored, stringy hair seemed to hang down. Richie watched him intently, taking in account the menacing glare that almost seemed to be plastered on his face.
His eyes were then fixated on the girl. She was much shorter than both the threatening looking boy, as well as Richie. Her hair was the same color as the boy's, but long curls draped down over her shoulders down to the center of her back.
She looks like a bitch, he thought to himself before being metaphorically yanked out of his thoughts.
"District 1," Adrian said, as if he had been watching Richie examine the other tributes.

Adrian proceeded to lead both Richie and Beverly to an elevator. Richie stepped inside, glancing around the inside curiously. As soon as the doors shut, all the clamor from outside seemed to fade out. The only thing that could be heard was the soft click of the button when Adrian pressed the number, 4, followed by the light hum of the elevator gears as it worked its way upward.
He studied the lighted elevator buttons thoroughly, reading each silver number embedded in them. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12-
He paused once he reached the next button, where you could tell the next numbers had been carved out. District 13.
District 13 was left in ruins after being bombed and destroyed right before the first Hunger Games. They were supposed to participate in the Games, but after attempting to rebel, it had been demolished. It no longer existed anymore.
Richie looked up when he heard the doors slide open. Adrian stepped out, followed by Beverly, but Richie was left unable to move. He was frozen in awe as the scents of lemon and mint drifted from his nose and were replaced with new ones. He thought they may be coconut and lavender.
After a minute, he was finally able to step out of the elevator, but he still remained speechless.
This room alone seemed bigger than the entirety of District 4. The floor was white and black marble, and not a speck of dust lay upon it. In front of them was a glass table, where plates and utensils had been set neatly in front of each clear-cut chairs. Crystal chandeliers hung down from the ceiling, illuminating the room with a soft, welcoming light.
Adrian let them move about the room for a moment before leading them to their bedrooms.
Richie froze up again once he was standing in the doorway, but this time only for a few seconds. He ambled over to the bed, pushing his glasses up on to the bridge of his nose as his eyes wandered about the room. What really seemed to catch his eye was the fact that the wall to his right was an entire window. This allowed him to glimpse over the Capitol as he pleased.
He bounced up and down once or twice, sinking down into the soft cushion each time. He gently ran his fingers over the threads detailing and embroidering the silky quilt on which he sat.
Richie continued to glance around the room in wonder before he noticed a remote which sat on the nightstand directly next to his new bed.
He carefully picked it up, looking over the buttons, studying them. There were ten different buttons, but none of them were marked in any way.
He eventually gained the courage to press the first button, which generated a lake setting across the entirety of the window to his right.
This startled him at first, causing him to jump back slightly. He frowned and kicked his filthy shoes off, not wanting to ruin the clean, elegant quilt.
The scene reflected in his glasses, forcing him to adjust them once again so he could see better.
Richie stared at the screen for a minute before deciding to press the next button. This brought up a mountain scene, provoking a small smile to creep up on to the boys face.
He kept clicking through the scenes, but paused on the last one. It was the ocean. It had always been the young boy's dream to be able to visit the ocean. He wanted to feel the sand between his toes, feel the ocean mist gently spray into his face, smell the salt in the air. But that would be impossible. There was no possible way he would ever be able to visit the ocean. Especially because he knew he wouldn't win the Hunger Games.
He took in a deep breath, intently watching the screen.
His eyes never left the waves.
