A few day after, the end of the first semester of school arrives and bring winter break. In all honesty, with the death of my father, work, finals, and life, I need the break. As I unlock the door to my house, I think that not only is it going to be Christmas and such, but my birthday is upcoming and I will be alone. Not that it is any different then the last few years, yet no one will care this time. I enter and instead of practicing, I go to my room and lie on the bed. I lie there and as the hours tick by, I  look at a little bottle on my dresser. I walk to it and as I stare at it, I pick it up and unscrew the cap making my way to the bathroom. I flush the contents down the toilet and toss the bottle in the trash. I may stubborn, but an idiot I am not. I dress and get ready for work and as I greet Grimm, I go behind the bar and organize for a long night. It may be the first night of break but that is when the rest of the world  comes out, to relieve the stress of work and life. The usuals show up and I see new faces. Younger, older, men, women. Some dressed casually, some less so. Yet, as I serve drinks, I am back to a cold, dark place. This is makes things harder but easier for me. Halfway through the night, I take my break and check my phone. A text from my cousin Jason alerts me to his coming over and stay for a few nights to check on me. He is bringing his wife Leona. This brings a smile to my face because as boys we would get into trouble too much but we never cared. I go back to work and continue to work until for no reason I think to myself. I want to be loud. I push the thought away until the end of the night. I begin to walk home and keep thinking about my epiphany. With a firm resolve, I open my phone and post on my Instagram for the first time in 2 years about a party at my address on the coming Friday. As I lie in bed, I turn on my speakers and play the Weeknd's Trilogy until I fall asleep around 6 in the morning.
