The first thing that was sort of stopping Jamie was the fact that she didn't even know if Bryce even liked her. Maybe he like someone else? Maybe he was marrying someone else? Maybe he was already dating?
The second thing that was sort of stopping Jamie was even more severe. It was related to tradition. You see, Jamie's parents were traditional and a little old-fashioned. And they believed in... arranged marriage. They believed that they were wiser in choosing a suitor for Jamie and they also wanted to get money from Jamie marrying a rich person. Bryce was not exactly rich, in fact his dad was a farmer! They definitely couldn't afford to pay a price to Jamie's parents. Jane knew she could never be able to marry Bryce, much less be with him...
