You know when you go on a ride at anamusementpark, and how they sometimes countdown until they push that red button that sends you to almost-sudden-death? I like that. To put it plainly though: I like countdowns. The excitement. The thrill. The anticipation. It's what I like. What I do, really. I countdown to certain dates in my future. Dates I'm excited for. Dates that hold meaning...like Christmas...or first day of summer. So, perhaps you can understand my excitement when one such date that had been forever lingering in my future became present.

beep...beep...beep...

My eyes snapped open and immediatly I felt a grin begin to spread across my face.  Today was the day.  I fist pumped the air, kicked exciteadly, and giggled until my fist-pumping fist-pumped the shelf in my room down, as well as all the books that it was holding.  Ouch, I rubbed my now sore knuckels and suddenly stilled.  Today was the day.  Today was the day.  Realizing my alarm clock was still going, I reached over to turn it off.  Holy buckets.  Today was the day.   The day I would finally get out of the house, out of town, and, I laughed to myself, out of my parents hair.

My first day of college was finally here!  I had been counting down since the day I'd recieved my acceptance letter, and today was the day.  I got out of bed, did a neat-o jig, and gathered the clothes I had picked out last night.  I danced on my way to the shower and sang a bit too.

"Kat?"

I stopped dead in my tracks.  "Yeah?" I said in a small voice, not daring to turn around.

"I CALL THE SHOWER!!!"  he tried to run past me but I quickly threw out my long arms and clothes-lined him.

"Oh, no you dont.  I was clearly here first." I hip-walked past him, wagging my un-seen tail in my unflattering pajamma pants.  I turned to face my brother rubbing his throat once I was in the bathroom "Not today you don't," and slammed the door.  My grin plastered to my face as I began to brush my teeth.  That is, until tooth-paste began to drip out of my mouth, I suppose even smart college freshman forget that its hard to smile and brush your teeth at the same time.
