The Netflix series that premiered last night has already started receiving negative backlash.

The long awaited series that is based on the popular book of the same title by Jay Asher focuses on the aftermath of the suicide of Hannah Baker, played by up and coming actress Rowan Williams, and the 13 tapes she made before committing suicide on the "reasons" that drove her to that point.

Many people were excited for the show, as the book is well loved, but also because it was promised that the show was going to talk about the stigma around mental illness and start conversations about suicide, the two desperately do need to be talked about.

However, after last night's premiere, many who watched have been left outraged and disgusted.

One twitter user tweeted: "DO NOT WATCH NETFLIX'S 13 REASONS WHY!! I watched the entire series last night and there are two graphic r*pe scenes and one VERY graphic s*icide with very little warning!!!"

Another user adding: "The warning is at the beginning of every episode, but it does not specify which episode is truly "graphic" or what type of "graphic" it is. It's very uncomfortable and unsettling to watch..."

In a lengthy instagram post, another user explained that the series romanticizes suicide and uses it, as well as the tapes, as a way to get revenge on people who treated Hannah poorly.

"Mental illness is very rarely, if ever, discussed," the user explained. "It's just terrible!! Would not recommend to anyone, especially people who have suffered from mental illness, who have attempted/who have considered suicide, or anyone who has been sexually assaulted."

There is no word from the show's producer, famous singer Selena Gomez, or from the show's stars. Specifically, many have been singling out Rowan Williams, who did an interview a week before the show was released, and promised fans the show would start conversation.

"Rowan Williams said she did research and that the show would not take the subjects lightly, and yet the show seems to not only take the subject of suicide and romanticize it, but it also had no problem with throwing in graphic and triggering suicide and sexual assault with very little warning. Disappointed in the show, the actors, and Rowan," one Twitter user said in a thread of tweets.

What are your thoughts on the series? Do you agree with the tweets and posts? When will the cast, especially Rowan, deal with this situation? Stay tuned!!

Hi! I just want to say that I haven't seen 13 Reasons Why yet, so the things I wrote in this chapter are basically what I've read about the show. But at this point I have no real opinion on the show.
