[(y/n)'s pov]

A normal day at the shop would be few people coming in, purchasing what they need, paying, and leaving, with the least amount of conversation possible, however, today was an oddity. One of the WR600 androids , that did maintenance on the park, came in, it wasn't the first time I've seen an android come into my shop, but they would simply come in, ask for what they have been ordered to get, pay, and leave. This android was very different though, when he entered the shop he stopped for a bit, took a quick look around at the flowers, taking in the wide variety of colors presented, he took his time making his way to the counter where I was standing. "What can I do for you today?" I said for about the twenty time today. "I need fifty yellow Persian Buttercups." The android simply stated, I was hoping that, because he took time to look around the shop, he might be more talkative, how foolish was I to actually think an android would want to have a conversation. "Follow me please." I requested of the WR600 as I walked over to the secluded corner of my shop that held my Persian Buttercups, it was my most stalked flower even if it was rare that anyone would ask for them, I simply kept them around because they are my favorite. "Why do you have so many," I heard the android say behind me, "I would expect them to be sold out." I was pleasantly surprised that the android was talking, "That's what I thought at first too," I said while grazing my hand over the flowers, "but people just don't seem to like them, now I just buy them for myself." I began collecting the flowers needed to fulfill the androids order. "That's a shame," he responded, "I'd love to see these around more." - "Sorry for not asking earlier," I said while placing the collected flowers into a basket, "what's your name?" - "Ralph." - "Well, Ralph," I turned to him, "you can stop in anytime you want to see the Persian Buttercups, how does that sound?" His face lit up, I never knew an android could be so expressive, "That'd be amazing!"

I was done collecting flowers, and Ralph and I kept chatting about random subjects while standing at the front counter. Eventually, we got to the subject of anti-android protesters. "I can understand why some humans may be upset at the idea of androids," Ralph said while looking down at the counter, "but that's no reason to destroy and vandalize us, it doesn't help anyone." I was about to respond until I heard the front doorbell ring, "I enjoyed talking to you," I said while Ralph paid, "maybe I could visit you while you're working in the park?" Ralph grabbed the basket, "I'd like that, (y/n)." As he left the shop he walked past the next customer. Before I could great the new customer he forcefully nudged Ralph, causing him to drop the basket, some of the flowers fell out. While the customer walked up to the counter I was already moving around the counter to help Ralph. "Excuse me," said the new customer. "I'm currently helping another customer I'll be able to help you in a few seconds," I gave the asshole a sarcastic smile as I kneeled down and assisted Ralph in placing the flowers back into the basket. "Have a good day," I said while I waved goodbye to the talkative WR600, he gave me a kind smile in reply, then returned to the park to continue his work. "You know," I turn back around to the ornery customer, "it's not very smart to damage city property." He scoffed, "Whatever, just get me some roses."

After I had taken care of seven other customers I could finally close up shop, but before I left I decided to grab some Persian Buttercups, the ones I had at my apartment had begun to wilt and I wanted to replace them. I stepped out of the door and into the rain, I didn't live far from here so I didn't bother with an umbrella most days. Luckily for me, I always walk through the park to get home, so I have a chance of seeing Ralph one last time today. As I was making my way through the park I noticed there were very few people there, many of them were there for the same reason as me, just passing through. At some point while I was walking I became lost in thought, my business was slowly decreasing in sales, nobody buys flowers anymore, these were some of the many thoughts that were plaguing my mind. "(y/n)!" I looked over to where the voice was coming from just to see Ralph walking towards me, at the sight of him I instantly snapped out of my thoughts. I smiled and sped up my pace. "I meant to ask you this earlier," I said while I stopped in front of him, "what do you do at the end of the day, I mean, if you're state-owned, what do you do?" - "Well, at the end of most days I'm picked up by a shuttle and taken to get my battery charged," Ralph paused, "but on certain nights, like tonight, I'll be positioned with some other androids to keep watch and call 911 if needed." - "Huh," I was genuinely surprised, "learn something new every day." We continued walking along asking each other questions every once and a while, even though we've only known each other for a short-time, it was already obvious that we would be good friends, it was a weird thought though, to be friends with an android, whatever friendship we had, felt artificial in its own sense, simply because of the fact that he felt no real emotions, and only reacted according to his programs dictation. Ralph could tell that I was deep in thought, "What's wrong?" - "I... I don't know how to put it," I mentally scrambled for the right words, "Ralph, would you consider us to be friends?" - "I wouldn't say we were friends in the traditional human sense," he looked at me and smiled, "but, we're friends in our own unique way." That simple statement helped to alleviate a lot of the previous anxiety I had. "Your clothes are soaked completely through." I hadn't noticed until now, but Ralph was right, usually I'd be home by now, "I don't mind it too much," I said while the cold rain sent chills down my spine, "it won't kill me." - "It actually can lead to you getting sick, (y/n)," Ralph said, his concern was obvious, "I would suggest that you get home as soon as possible." His tone was melancholy, I could tell he didn't want me to leave, but he also didn't want me to get sick. I paused for a moment before I said anything, "Fine," I responded while separating one of the Persian Buttercups from the rest in my other hand, "but take this." I tucked it behind his ear and smiled, I started walking away, however, after a few steps, I stopped. "I'll see you tomorrow," I turned around to face him, "right?" He lightly smiled and nodded, "Of course, (y/n)." With this, I hurried back home before I could, somehow, become even more drenched.
