Elaine stepped quietly from her mother's old,
silver vehicle, looking ahead at the dusty, cream colored building before her, her new home. The morning rays of light, casted about by an early sun, seemed to glow as they reflected onto the building, illuminating and lightening old windows, with different curtains to protect those inside.
Elaine and her family--consisting of her mother Cleo, and brother Jone--had just moved to the Night Light Apartment complex; a fairly common looking building along the new York streets, housing the expensive and the fairly average.
The west family, was most definitely the average. Twenty one year old Jone, owning and working in his own music shop, and Forty year old Cleo working in a hospital. Elaine, however, had no current occupation, pushing her focus on school.
Her small, chubby hands, gripped the boxes tightly as she carried them to the new space, placing them down on the polished wood floor before running to get more. No more than two hours passed before all of the boxes were placed and a truck delivered larger furniture.
The day was spent placing items and organizing, the clocks reading 5:00pm once they had finished. "Well it sure took long enough!" Cleo heaved a breathy sigh, the afternoon colors seeping through the windows. "Why dont you two finish setting up your rooms, and ill call you when dinners done?"
"Thats Fine by me!" Elaine, was the first to run off to her room, which was kissed by natural, evening lights along with the mess of boxes and displaced items. As she cleaned and unpacked, her room took on a fairly girlish aura. Her Alice in Wonderland bed spread, sparking the shine of the periwinkle colored walls and white carpet. Many plushies and stuffed animals lined her bed, her favorite being a cute fennec Fox, with a little pink bow around its neck. Fairy lights decorated her ceiling, her clothes placed neatly in her closet, her pants and skirts filling its built in shelves. Her shoes were organized on the floor, and her mirror hung on the inner side of the door.
Her dresser, placed in a corner of her room, had a cute lamp, and a few family images, and an antique, golden jewelry box holding small accessories. In the drawers, were more clothes, panties, swim suits, ect. The bottom drawer however, held more childish clothes, as well as her glittery pacifier.
You see, Elaine had a rather big secret, finding herself often slipping into little space, to bring herself peace and joy, and rid of nasty, icky stress. Nobody knew about her regression, other than her best friend, Thomas rower, a bisexual switch.
She sighed, her mind drifting as she began to stare intently out a window, admiring the clouds, decorated by a background of faded oranges and pinks. Her admiration however, was interrupted by her mother calling down herself and her brother for dinner.
"So!! You guys done setting up?"
"Yea, took me a while though, couldn't decide where to hang my CDs" Jone dug his fork into the noodles on his plate, eating them as he spoke. "Yknow, ive gotta be up early tomorrow for work, to open up. I just hope im not late..!"Elaine gave him a disgusted look, "dont chew with your mouth open, ya nasty!" She broke into quiet laughter before enjoying her own bowl of dinner. "So Elaine, make sure youre up by 6 tomorrow, you have to be at school by 7:45, theres directions on the fridge, on how to get there. " she nodded in response, carrying her plate to the sink and making way to the shower.
The water cascaded down her back as she drew on the bath walls with a water crayon, making a small heart, with bunnies and stars. As she finished her drawing, she soaped her hair and tired body, then proceeded to wash away the small art, bringing her crayons with her to her room, hiding them, and changing into plain pink pajamas.
