Jack's Staff (A Rise of the Guardians One Shot)

Jack's Staff

Try as he might, Jack couldn't fix his staff. He and Baby Tooth were sitting at the bottom of a pit and he knew he had to find a way out. Suddenly, a sharp pain resonated from Jack's side. Baby Tooth looked at him concerned. "It's nothing." He lied. She kept staring at him. She wasn't going to let this go so easily. He sighed "it's my staff. I can't fix it and..." he gasped as the pain intensified. "Without it, my powers go crazy. I can hurt a lot of people. I could hurt you. I have to hold them back, and that hurts a lot."

She hung her head. He could tell what she was thinking. He had traded his staff for her. It was her fault.

"Hey cheer up!" he lifted her head. "it's not your fault. Now, I'm going to get us out of here. We need to help the others..." Jack took a deep breath and got ready. He let out a smidge of his power, just enough to fly them out of the pit. Instead, they rocketed up quickly and he had to get a hold on them again and they started to fall again. It was going to be a long ride.

~time skip~

It took some work, and a lot of pain, but Jack was eventually able to reach Jamie's bedroom. He saw him talking to his stuffed bunny and he knew he had to do something. He didn't dare try to use his powers. Instead, he found a notepad laying on Jamie's floor. He went over and sat on the bed next to Jamie. He set in on Jamie's lap and started to draw.

Jamie gasped when the notepad appeared on his lap. And it started drawing! It drew a picture of a bunny surrounded by eggs. It turned the page and drew a large man holding a present. Next was a fairy with a tooth. After that was a tiny man and a sleeping child with a unicorn over her head. Lastly, there was a boy on a sled. Jamie realized it was himself. Next to him, was another boy flying through the with snowflakes flowing behind him. "Is that Jack Frost?"

Jack's eyes widened. He was about to gain his first believer.

~time skip~

Pitch successfully been defeated. Throughout the battle, Jack had to use as littler power as possible. He found that now just by touching the nightmares the would freeze instantly. As the battle the pain only got worse. The longer he held his powers back, the more built up they got. He would have to go somewhere without any people around to release them.

Jack planned on heading to Antarctica. He hated having to do that after he had just gotten people to believe in him, but he had to do it to protect them. He wouldn't be able to leave either. Without is staff it would be too easy for him to accidently hurt someone. He had to go away.

"Great work today Jack!" North and the other Guardians came over to him. "Now, would you like to make it official? Being a Guardian I mean."

Jack's vision was starting to get blurry. He had to get away. "No. I-I'm sorry. I can't."

"What?" Bunny asked surprised.

"Why not?" Tooth asked.

Images started floating over Sandy's head.

"Jack is there something wrong?" North put a hand on his shoulder. He suddenly jerked away in pain. When he looked at his hand it was covered in a layer of frost.

"I'm so sorry..." Jack started crying and the tears froze to his cheek. "I-I have to go... I don't want to hurt you..." suddenly he flew into the air as the Guardians yelled after him.

"What was that about?" Bunny was confused.

Baby Tooth flew over to Tooth and explained what had happened to Jack's staff and what he had done for her. When Tooth told the Guardians what she had said they knew they had to find Jack quickly.

~time skip~

Jack barley made it to the artic before his powers went off again. He crash landed near a cave and he went inside. He could now let go. Once he did a huge snow storm broke out in the small cave. He curled in in himself and cried. This is how he would have to spend the rest of his life. But he couldn't hurt anyone so that's all that mattered.

~time skip~

The Guardians followed Baby Tooth to Jack's staff. North gently picked it up. "This should be an easy fix..."

~time skip~

They searched all of Antarctica until they finally found him. The Guardians walked into the cave and the cold intensified. It was the coldest thing they had ever felt. "Jack?" Tooth called out.

He looked up and instantly grabbed his powers back. "What are you doing here?! You have to go! I'll hurt you!"

Bunny knelt down next to him "It's gonna be ok mate." He went to ruffle his hair but Jack jumped back before he could.

"I'll hurt you..." he said weakly.

"Jack come back to the pole." Tooth said "North is working on fixing your staff right now."

Jack got hopeful but then it diminished "I-I can't I couldn't hold it back that long... You would get hurt."

Bunny rolled his eyes "Quit worrying about hurting us ya Gumby! You're hurting yourself by holding your powers back. Baby Tooth told us. Now come back so we can get you fixed up!"

~time skip~

It didn't take too long to get to the pole; Jack was in pain the whole time but Tooth kept telling him words of encouragement so that helped. Once they got there, North ran out holding Jack's staff. He quickly handed it to him. As soon as Jack touched it the pain went away. He started crying tears of joy and gave North a huge hug. "Thank you so much."

"Is no problem." He ruffled his hair. "Now... Let's go make you a guardian..."
