There was a time that she didn't really matter to me.
She was just a stranger in this café.
She was just a mere customer... just like me.
"Here's your coffee, sir." The server says as he puts the cup of coffee on my table.
"Thank you." I said. I reached for the cup and smelled the sweet aroma of the black coffee. Nothing beats this moment after a long day of work. I took a sip, put the cup back on the table, and continued reading the new book I bought.
I got up after finishing my coffee. Get in my car. Drive home.
Same routine every day. Just the way I like it.
Then, she walked into my life. Like a tornado of craziness.
A beautiful tornado full of happiness.
It happened like a flash. There was no available table in this bloody café and she asked if she could share a table with me. I looked her up and down, and her smile wavered.
I was an asshole, I know, but at least I said yes.
She sat down happily and I get back to reading my book.
After a while, she destroyed my perfect afternoon. She asked what I was reading, what I'm drinking, why I take my coffee black... she asked a ton of questions. I didn't even notice that I already put my book down and I've drank all my coffee. Her laughter had me dizzy and had me craving for another doze of it.
She looked at her watch and prepared to get up. She has to go to the hospital now. She's a nurse, she said. She'll tell me funny stories about her job next time, she said.
She got up. Walked to the door. Looked back at me. Smiled. And waved goodbye.
And that was the first time I fell in love.
And yes, it was the last.
