I wake up to my alarm. I smash it off and wipe the drool off the sides of the sides of my mouth. I get out of bed and stumble towards the mirror. Once I reach the mirror I realise I'm still wearing the same clothes as yesterday. I fast rumble through my closet and find a pair of jeans and a blue and white stripy shirt that doesn't go over the shoulders but rather across the chest. I put it on and go back to the mirror. I look cute, cute as in acceptable. I grab a brush and brush fawn hair strait hair. I grab my makeup and put on a orange eyeshadow to make my blue eyes pop.
"Beatrice!" I hear mum yell from down the stairs.
I stuff my bag with pencils and a few notebooks and run down the stairs until I realise I forgot to put on socks, so I run up the stairs again and put on some white socks. I look in the mirror one last time and give myself a smile.
When I reach the modern kitchen, I see that mum has made some "Healthy" pancakes with bananas. She puts them on and passes me the syrup. It looks as though she is once again in a perfect mood.
"How did you sleep?" She asks turning the pancake in the pan over.
"Fine." I say and stuff the pancakes into my mouth.
"You excited for your new school?"
"Sure." I say and stuff another pancake in my mouth.
"Beatrice, I..." She says and looks me straight in the eye.
I look her in the eyes with a pancake in my mouth. "Yes?"
"I have to go on a business trip again. This time it's for two weeks." She says. "I am so sorry. I know you were counting on that I would be home, but this would really help us, help me. I hope it's okay for you."
I put down my fork. I know how much these business trips mean to her, but she knows that we barely spend anytime with each other. It makes her happy when I say its okay because then she thinks she has my permission but really, it's all fake.
"Where too?"
"Hawaii." She says. "And yes, I already asked if you could follow with, but they said no."
I let out a sigh.
"It's fine." I say and get out of the chair. "Business before family am I right:"
I walk towards the door and put on my white converse. I don't turn back to say goodbye to her. She knows we can do it over text. I grab my skate board from the garage and skateboard to school.
Once I reach the school I see that the school is much bigger than I expected but then again what can you expect from New York. A bunch of kids hug each other as school has finally began.
I walk through the doors and see how everyone is happy to see each other again. I walk towards the principal's office as it said in my email that I received. Once I reach the principals office I knock on the door and walk inside.
"Hello Miss Swan, I have been expecting you." Mr King says
I sit down in the seat in front of his desk and put my bag in my lap.
"I read your report cards from your past schools and you seem to be an excellent student. I bet you will fit right in." He says.
"That's very kind of you to say." I say with a smile.
"I know that moving school to school can be very difficult for students in their younger years, but I hope that this high school can offer you all the help you need." He says and passes me a paper. "Here is your schedule, I think your first class is chemistry. It should be down the hall to the right."
"Thank you, Mr King," I say and put my bag on and leave to class.
I leave the principal's office I look down on my schedule. Chemistry. Down the hall to the right. As I say it I start walking towards the room. Remember what you should not do when you enter the class room I say to myself. I reach the class room and take a deep breathe. First impression is everything, is what mum had said. Let's just get this over with. I knock on the door and a woman in the age of about 30 opens it. She gives me a big smile.
"You must be Beatrice Swan." She says.
"That's me." I say with a smile.
"Welcome in." She says and puts out her hand to tell me to walk inside.
I walk inside the classroom and see that every eye of the class turns to me except an Indian boy in the corner who I can't make out if he is looking at me ore not because he is wearing sunglasses.
"Class, please welcome your new student Beatrice." She says, and I give everyone an awkward wave. Should not have done that.
"You can be the new partner of Peter." She says and points to a brown-haired boy sitting in the middle of the class, I must be honest he is pretty cute.
"But Ned is my partner, Mrs Smith" He says.
"Ned can be Liz 's partner." Mrs Smith says. "It's time to switch things up."
Ned, the boy sitting next to Peter is quite big and has tanned skin. He stands up and sits next to Liz who is a brown skinned girl with beautiful dark hair and glitter dark brown eyes. As Ned moves I can see how Ned tries to impress Liz but it's clearly not working.
"You can take a seat next to Peter." Mrs Smith repeats and I stumble towards the seat next to Peter.
I take a seat next to Peter and I can see his irritation as he makes his right leg go up and down. I want to ask him something or at least start a conversation, but I know that I will just sound awkward and he will find me a dork and then my life will go down the drain.
"Got somewhere to be?" Blurts out of my mouth.
"Someone needs my help." He says. "But you would not understand."
He looks back at his notebook and I grab mine out of the bag. Peter Parker, who are you?
