Alfred had bruising from the magic that had been used. Severus had never seen someone fight the magic for so long. He marveled as the sky blue magic clashed with the green, Salazar's portrait scowling at the fight. Severus knew the fight would be lost but for just a moment Alfred's magic overpowered the castle's. It was too brief to have won the battle for freedom. Severus was truly impressed. When the wing broke, he was held back by Sinestra.
"Severus, we cannot interfere with this! We have the Healing kits. The memories should be shown any moment." She was wrong. Alfred, who appeared to be fifteen, was able to resist the gas and the memory viewing for a few minutes. It was disconcerting to see such a young child able to fight so relentlessly. It had taken three doses of the gas for Alfred to submit.
The memories that were shown sparked something within him. Protectiveness like nothing he had ever thought filled him as he witnessed the child's worst memories that had been forced from the mind so guarded. The child was abandoned, hurt, abused, neglected, beaten, and tortured for his beliefs and country. They couldn't tell that the memories were of different time periods but they could tell that Alfred, and Arthur by extension, were more than the typical person. Some sort of guardians probably. They could also tell that Arthur hadn't done anything to actively hurt the boy. Severus did know that Arthur was part of the reason for the boy's abandonment.
Severus actually felt some guilt about having shoved the boy into the circle. The guilt disappeared when he saw the scene of the boy almost committing suicide.  He knew immediately why the child ended up in Slytherin. He would make sure the boy would feel like he had a family. When the process was completed, there was shocked silence. Severus made a silent oath to protect this boy as he gently picked the boy up and started to mend the broken wing.
Bruise balm and skelegro were administered swiftly, the wing was set correctly, and Alfred was watching him with tired and suspicious eyes.
"Severus, the scan should have been completed by now. You don't think he's been that injured, do you?" Charity's whisper caused the sky blue eyes to flash towards her, fear reflecting in their depths.
"Yes, I do in fact believe it is worse than we assumed as he was unconscious when he managed to short out Madame Pomphry's spell." Severus continued to gently rub in some of the bruise balm, watching the American's expressive eyes. He knew that Alfred would not be able to even talk until tomorrow because of the gas.
"Should we tell the Headmaster?" Sinestra's question caused an interesting bout of magic from the sedated American. All the furniture in the common room rose a foot in the air and a wind started to blow at terrifying speeds. Severus grabbed Alfred's chin and forced eye contact.
"Cease this behavior now!" The or else was implied in his icy tone as the wind whipped and howled around him. Surprisingly, the magic stopped as suddenly as it began. Severus maintained the eye contact as his tone became more reassuring than it had been. "The information discovered will only be revealed if we find it to be too dangerous to keep a secret. Slytherin is a Family and we protect each other. We keep each other's secrets and guard each other from harm." Morgana help him, he didn't know how to deal with this. The suspicion remained though the weariness seemed to be winning the battle. Severus ran his hand through the wheat like hair, waiting until the boy fell asleep. It didn't take too long for sleep to claim Alfred. Or maybe it was because Severus accidentally pulled on Nantucket (America's Number One Sleeping Potion Manufacturer).
