{Hey guys!! So obviously, SUPER LATE but you should know me by now huh? :P Anyhoo, apologies for that! But here it is! Honestly, I had no clue where to start with this one. It seemed easy enough, but I just had writer's block!! (That's what happens when you don't write consistently!!) But, after reading Ephemeral_Sakura 's post for this theme, (which I totally recommend you guys check out her and all of her social media, and all of her fics, they are all amazing and she is a big inspiration to me!! ), I got motivated to look for more inspiration. And I found it while listening to "Waiting for Superman" by Daughtry. And I was also inspired by the last scene where Clark tells Lois his secret in Smallville. Anyways, without further ado...}
*SasuSaku Month 2018
Day 1
Theme: Heroes
Title: Waiting for Superman
Summary:
Sakura Haruno is a medical student who is pursuing her dream to become a doctor. Although, in the process of doing so, she has a part time job as a reporter for Konaha's newspaper. She didn't like writing very much, that is until a certain subject, or rather, person, peaked her interest.~~Waiting For Superman~~
"And...done." Sakura Haruno said as she finished writing her most recent column.
"Another one done. Whoopy-frickin'-do." She said in a sarcastic tone. Don't get her wrong, she had nothing against writing. In fact, she was pretty good at it. What she lacked, was passion. She had no desire for writing. No, her passion was found in the medical field.
"Just a few more years..." She sighed. She had recently took a job as a reporter for the local, yet large, newspaper, The Konaha News. It was only a part time job, but hey, income is income right? She just wished more exciting stuff would happen. Nothing ever happened around there! It also didn't help she was all alone. She had moved to Konaha by herself for college, leaving behind her family and all of her friends. She had made no friends at work, and had only made one friend at school. Her name was Hinata, but she was quiet and didn't talk much. She had thought about how she was single too. In her phone calls back home, she had heard that even her best friend, Ino, got a boyfriend named Sai, who apparently saved her from other guys who were trying to harass her. Sakura was forever thankful to Sai for that. But, it also made her a little envious. Where was her Superman?!
'Cha! You don't need a Superman! You are your own super hero!' She heard a small, but confident voice inside her say.
She laughed at what her inner self was thinking. Sure, she knew how to handle and protect herself, but..knowing someone is there, and being saved, is nice sometimes too. Sure as heck ain't as lonely! She had gone on a few dates since she moved out here, but none of the guys seemed right for her. She looked out her window up at the night sky. She saw a shooting star and made a silent wish.
"You're out there..and I'll find you." She smiled as she dozed off to sleep.
The next morning she had to go the newspaper to send her column off for printing. As she sat at her desk she stared out the window. She was watching the white, fluffy, clouds float through the bright blue sky. How she wished she could just fly away. Then she looked down at all of the traffic. She looked back up. The sky was much better. It let her forget all of her problems that were below.
'I wonder what he looks like. When will I meet him? Ugh, I'm too damn impatient to wait like this! Oh well, my superhero will come when I need him. Superheroes usually don't show up until the last minute...right?? He could be saving someone else, or even washing his cape..if he wore one, that is...' She thought and sighed at her silly thoughts. Who was she kidding? Superheroes like that don't exist.
"Well, you sure look happy to be here."
She heard a voice and looked up to face the source of such a stoic voice. And what she saw was the most beautiful, and interesting thing she had seen since she had moved here. Gorgeous coal-black eyes, behind his black framed glasses, staring into her emerald green ones. He had dark hair, much like a raven's feathers would look like. He wore a nice suit, minus the jacket, although even without a jacket, it looked amazing on him. How come she had never seen him here before?
'Come on, Sakura, stop drooling and don't mess this up!'
"Oh, well, just thinking while I wait for this to finish sending and printing." She simply replied. She kept her voice cool and confident, no matter how hard it was.
"Ah. Well, my name is Sasuke Uchiha."
"Sakura Haruno here." She gave him a smile.
"Hn. Nice to meet you, Sakura." He said, giving her a little smile.
"So, are you new here? I haven't seen you around before." She asked, wanting to learn more about this guy. Maybe it was just coincidence, but she had a feeling about this one. Like this is what she has been waiting for.
"Yes, actually, I just got a job here. It's a lot more hectic around here than I thought it would be." He gave a small chuckle, situating his glasses.
She laughed, "Yeah, but you'll get used to it fast." She winked at him. "So what made you come up to my desk? Not that I mind or anything."
"Oh yeah, well, the boss told me to just jump in, and if I didn't know what to do, to ask someone. But, um, everyone else seems pretty busy."
"And I'm not. I see." She suppressed a laugh, and he nervously began to try and take back his words.
"Uh, oh no, that's not what I meant to imply, I mean, of course you're busy. But I mean you just looked so..." he paused.
"So..." she urged him on. He cleared his throat.
"So calm. That's all." He said. And while that's was true, what he really was thinking was 'beautiful'.
'Sure, that's all. He is totally into you!!' She mentally rolled her eyes at this voice that keeps speaking inside of her.
"That makes sense. Anyways, ever worked in a newspaper before?"
"Nope." He replied with a unapologetic face.
"That's alright. When I started here, I hadn't either. But, like I said, you'll catch on quickly." Just then the computer in front of her began to beep, indicating it was done. "Ah. That's it. That's all I had in the office today. Did you get an assignment to do, or.."
"Ah, well no. The boss also said to see if I could just tag along with someone for a while, so..would you mind if.." He made a gesture with his hands.
"You tagged along with me?" She finished for him. "Not at all."
All this time, Sakura seemed calm on the outside, however, she was wondering where all this confidence and calmness came from.
"You like coffee?" She asked him.
"Love it." He said smiling almost a full smile at her.
They went to a local coffee shop and both ordered their respective drinks. He got a regular black coffee with nothing added. While she got a mocha with extra whipped cream on top. They talked for hours, getting little work done, however, they were getting to know each other very well. By this time, it was dark outside.
"A doctor, huh? That's gotta be pretty tough." He said slightly impressed. He studied her features. She had pink hair that extended down a little past her shoulders. She also wore a smile that was so perfect, his heart beat a little faster every time he saw it. And then there were her eyes. They were bright green that seemed to make everything around her light up a little more. Including himself. He would've never opened up to anyone like this, but with her..he felt, like he could trust her. Maybe she could even be the one he could spend his life with. Even with his...complicated...life. But, he wouldn't just tell anyone..he would have to get to know her better of course. Which, he wouldn't complain about one bit.
"...then, after that I hope to open my own clinic someday."
He was snapped back to reality when he heard a scream come from outside. The two reporters ran outside to see what was going on, and they were followed by others in the shop. They looked around, then they heard it again.
"SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME!!!!"
They looked up, there was someone hanging from the edge of a twenty story building.
"Sasuke!! Do you see..." She looked next to her, looking for her partner, but he wasn't there.
'He must've got lost in the crowd.' She thought. Returning her attention back to the helpless person hanging from the building. She pulled out her cell phone and started to dial 9-1-1.
"Yes there is a person hanging from a building! They need help fast!"
"Okay, ma'am. Where are you and what building is this person hanging from?"
She gave him the address and was told that help was on the way. She clutched her phone.
'Just hang on.' She thought. It was at that moment the person slipped off of the edge. She heard to crowd scream in response.
"NO!!" She yelled, anticipating the landing. But it never came.
"What the.." She stared in disbelief as a person, wearing a red cape, flew in and caught the person. He gently floated down and set the person down carefully. He wore a blue costume that had a symbol on the front, with an S on top of the symbol. Then there was his red cape. He had dark hair and a black eyes. She thought he seemed familiar, but she was sure she hadn't met him before. Everyone was a little afraid to approach him. But she wasn't. This was her story!!
"Hey!! Can I get a word?!" She yelled as she ran across the street. She hadn't seen the truck coming.
"Look out!" He yelled.
She gasped, and closed her eyes bracing for impact. One second she was about to get hit by a truck, the next she couldn't feel her feet touching the ground. In fact, it felt as though gravity didn't even exist. She slowly opened her eyes and saw him. She felt herself in his arms, as he carried her through the air. He finally looked down at her and said, "You should be more careful." He smirked at her.
What a stoic face and voice...where had Sakura heard that before?
"Uhh..ye-yeah I suppose."
He gave her a questioning look. This definitely wasn't the same partner he had met earlier. He flew down to the ground at a park and set her on her feet.
"How can I thank you?" She asked as he was about to fly away again.
"There is no need. I was happy to save such a beautiful woman." He gave her a genuine smile. She felt her cheeks heat up.
"Wait!" She walked up to him and gave him a sweet, kiss on the cheek.
"Are you okay walking home by yourself from here?" He asked.
"Um, yeah my apartment is only a few blocks from here." She replied, still feeling adrenaline running through her system.
"Until next time..." And he flew off.
She began walking to her apartment. She walked past the coffee shop she was just at.
'I wonder where Sasuke went...'
As if on cue, she saw Sasuke walking up to her.
"Hey Sakura, are you okay? I saw you almost get hit by a truck, I was worried." He said as he set his hand on her shoulder.
"Yeah, I'm okay. I was saved by this guy. This guy..it was unbelievable..he could fly! And he was so strong...if only I knew who he was." She pondered.
"You're right, that is unbelievable." He removed his hand from her shoulder. She lightly punched his arm.
"Oh come on, Sasuke. I'm not crazy." She defended.
"I know, I know. I'm only teasing." He put his hands up defensively. "But maybe, you should just let this guy be. Privacy is a lovely thing." He looked into her eyes.
"He saved my life. I would like to know who he is." She said looking back into his eyes, while holding her ground.
"Alright. Well, do you care if I'm your next 'hero' and walk you back home? It's dark out, who knows what creeps may be out there." He asked, sounding a little concerned.
"You know, I can handle myself." She huffed. "But, yes, that would be very nice." She smiled and had a slight blush on her cheeks. He smiled also, but held back a full smile. She felt something in her chest when he did so...but she couldn't put her finger on it.
A few weeks later, Sakura still had no idea who it was that saved her, but she hadn't given up. She wrote a story on the hero, Superman was the name she had given him, and a few different ones about him, since he has saved even more people since the first one. But she hadn't gotten close to him like the first time. But she was determined! She even made Sasuke help her out, but he wasn't much of a help. Right now, they were at her apartment working on their next story.
"What do you mean leave it be?? He saved my life!" She argued.
"Well, maybe he doesn't want to be found out yet." Sasuke countered.
"You are too much, you know that? He isn't thinking that...besides, I wouldn't tell anyone if he wanted it to be a secret!" She said pouting. He chuckled at her.
"Hey, what's so funny?!"
"You." He smiled at her, and for the first time, it was a full smile.
'That smile...' she thought as her mouth fell open. She slowly approached him. He looked at her nervously.
"Yes?" He asked, and got no reply.
'It's you...you are right here. You are my hero, my Superman...you are so close.' She thought. She was about to speak out loud but stopped herself as she remembered Sasuke's previous words. He didn't want anyone to know..yet. If this was him, anyways. She smiled.
"You got a little pizza sauce on your face."
"Aah, thanks." He grabbed a napkin and wiped it off. She smiled. She was okay like this...she could learn to be patient..she at least knew he was here, he was real. And he would protect her. That's when she got an idea. She at least had to know, and know for sure, it was him.
The next night, they were working late at the office.
"I think we should call it a night." He said.
"Yeah I think you're right." She said yawning.
"Well, ready to go?"
"Actually, Sasuke, I'd like to walk home alone. I just need some time to think by myself."
"But-" He tried to argue, but she cut him off.
"But nothing, I'll be fine." She smiled and went out the door.
'Now, not that I ever wish bad things would happen to me or anyone else, but now would be a good time to get jumped.' She thought. Sakura was never one to be afraid of taking risks. She was carrying a purse, to try and attract any bad guys. About four blocks away from her house, a man jumped out in front of her, causing her to scream in surprise. She turned to run, only to be met with another guy behind her. One grabbed her, while the other took her purse, and began to rummage through it.
"Help! Please!" She called out. The man holding her covered her mouth.
"Oh we can't have that, now can we?" He laughed evilly. Then whispered in her ear, "No one is going to save you."
She shivered at how close he was. What was taking him so long? She felt tears coming to her eyes, and one slipped out and down her cheek. The other man finally spoke up.
"Hey! There isn't anything in here!"
"Well, well, we can't leave empty handed now can we?" The first man said, as he held Sakura tighter. She had tears streaming down her face now.
"That isn't how someone should treat a lady."
They all looked over to see him standing there.
'It's him! He's here!' She thought, overjoyed. She had never been so happy to see someone, ever.
"Oh, and what do you think you're gonna do about it, huh?" The man chuckled deeply and darkly.
"This."
In a split second, the hero was right next to them. He punched the man with the purse, right in the gut, causing him to drop the bag. Then proceeded to flick him in the forehead, which made the man fly backwards. He turned to the other guy, who had already let Sakura go in fear.
"P-please..I-I don't want any trouble." He begged.
"Should've thought of that before you jumped an innocent person. You, are the one who brought the trouble." And with that, the man was sent flying backwards. He turned to look her in the eyes.
"Are you okay?" He asked.
"Yes." She smiled. "Now I am." She wiped away her tears.
He smiled back and that's when she knew.
'It is you...' she thought.
"You know, you should be more careful. A young woman such as yourself, should be with someone who can protect you." He gave her sly smile.
"Oh, yeah, I do...well, not like a boyfriend or anything." She laughed nervously. "But a very good friend. And I know he's got my back." She smiled warmly at him. He raised an eyebrow at her.
"Well, if he ever offers to walk you home, let him. And if he doesn't, ask him to walk with you. If he is a great friend like you say he is, then it shouldn't be a problem for him."
"No it wouldn't be..he really is great. And I'm thankful for him."
"Good to hear." He said turning away. "Be careful."
And just like that he was gone. But she was okay with that..she knew it was him. And she would give him space. If he ever wanted to tell her...he would.
*A FEW MONTHS LATER*
"So, are you gonna run off this time? Or are we gonna have an actual date?" Sakura teased through the phone.
"Hey, we have had actual dates before, many in fact. Listen, I'm sorry about all of the other times, things came up, but I'll make it up to you tonight I promise." Sasuke said. Of course she knew why he had to leave suddenly all the time, but he didn't know she knew.
"Mmhmm okay. If you say soooo..." she teased a final time.
"Hn. I will." He said defensively.
She giggled, "I know. I love you, babe, hurry here."
"Alright, bye." After he hung up, he called one of his fellow super powered friends.
"Heeelllooo?"
"Naruto, you sure you have tonight handled? Patrolling the city and everything?" He asked unsure.
"Yes I'm sure! Gosh, Sasuke, you are such a worry wart. Now, go make Sakura happy!" Naruto yelled through the phone.
"Hn."
He arrived at their apartment, which they starting sharing since they started dating.
"Ooh, Chinese! My favorite!" She said excitedly. "If this is all you had, well, this is already making things up." She laughed, and he laughed with her.
"No, this is just the start." He set the food down and grabbed her hands. She looked up into his eyes.
"Sakura, I love you so much. I can't even express it. The last few months have been the best in my whole life." He started and she smiled at him. "And I can't imagine living without you. You are my everything." He continued, and she was still smiling. "And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So..." He knelt down, as her emerald eyes began to gloss over. "...would you, Sakura Haruno, marry me?" He pulled a little black box out of his pocket, and opened it, exposing a diamond ring.
"Yes, yes I will!"
He slid the ring on her finger and stood up as she jumped on him and wrapped him up in a hug.
"I love you." She said in his ear.
"I love you too."
They pulled back, kissed, and looked each in the eye and they smiled. There was that smile. She had seen it many times. By the same person with two different identities. He had to tell her. He was going to marry her, for heaven's sake!
"You know, I've seen that smile before..." She started.
"Yeah, I'd hope you have seen your fiancé smile before." He emphasized the word fiancé. She loved the sound of that. But she continued to press forward.
"No, actually, it was from Superman. You guys actually share a lot in common, in looks anyways."
"Must be a coincidence." He said turning away from her, fixing his glasses and made his way to the food.
"You know, I always try to figure out who he is..but I guess he's never gonna tell me...is he?" She asked as she felt a tear slip down her cheek. He turned around surprised.
"I mean, if he thought it could put your life at risk...then probably not." He replied.
"But maybe I'm willing to take that risk...I wish he knew that." She said softly. She started to walk away towards the bedroom.
"Sakura...I know you've been wondering about this for a long time..." He began, and she stopped. "And I was just scared of losing you, putting you in danger or being rejected. But I realize, to be able to share a life with someone, you must share everything with them. Even the darkest of secrets."
She widened her eyes at him.
"I'm him. I'm Superman."
'FINALLY!' She thought as she ran towards him and jumped on him, causing him to tumble backwards and land on his back, with her straddling him. They shared a long, and emotion-filled kiss. Once they finally pulled away, they were both breathing heavy. She removed his glasses and grinned at him.
"What took you so long...?" She smiled, sweetly at him and he smirked back.
~The End~
