(Authors perspective)
The two men find themselves back on the long road. The hooded man didn't want to take to many chances and wanted to stick to side roads and back paths for a bit before they stole another car, perhaps in the next state.
Night was crawling in towards them once again. The days had been blurring together, though they were used to that. The twitching male sighed and stopped walking causing the other to turn and look at him.
"I'm hungry."
Hoodie sighed a little. "I know kid...maybe we should've stolen something from that house....there's...some more up ahead. We could probably break into one?"
"I don't want to steal..." he sighed. "Brian. Can we not do bad things?"
The hooded man looked at his counterpart and they stood in a moment of silence. He knew what he meant. Their job was bad enough. What they had to do to survive was bad enough. It must be tiresome for the teen to see the shit hit the fan like this every day. Something bad would lead them to worse.
He sighed. "Maybe....maybe we could ask to spend the night somewhere...."
The male nodded excitedly, he grabbed Hoodies hand and dragged him along the road into the village.
They stopped at the first house. Toby tilted his head and looked in. A middle aged woman sat in her chair reading a book while the TV played a sitcom. No one else appeared to be there.
Toby walked to the door and knocked.
A few moments later the door opened.
"Uhm, who are you? I don't want to buy anything.."
"We don't want to sell anything, ma'am. We just...our car just got totalled with most of our stuff inside. We just need a place for the night...and some food? Please..."
The woman looked over the pair, her tired gaze was soft when looking over the ragged bunch she opened the door a little. "You'll have to tell me more about the totalled car. We can get someone to track who totalled it."
Brian nodded a little as Toby stepped in quickly and grinned. The house smelt like gingerbread. It was an inviting scent that almost reminded the young male of home. He looked down. He missed his home. His family. All of them. His sister, his mum....even....his dad. He appeared to have fallen into a trance of misery, a few tears dripped from his eyes. Brian looked at him and grabbed his hands.
"Toby?"
"....I...I'm fine."
He hugged him, the woman walked over.
"My son's old room is down the hall if you guys like. I'm making spaghetti by the way."

Brian nodded. "Thank you. "
Toby sniffled a little, it took him a moment to calm down. They sat with the woman in silence as they ate before Toby stopped mid meal, he started crying. He got up and ran off. Leaving the woman confused. Brian gave her an apologetic look.
"He's had it rough..."
"I can see. Poor boy. He reminds me of my son, the kid got potential but like a candle he was snuffed out too soon.... Oh..I miss my son. " She looked down and wipes her eyes.
Brian sighed and rested a hand in her shoulder in comfort. "Ma'am, please..."
"Oh, oh...no please. It's nice to have the company. I don't get it often."
He tilted his head as she composed herself.
"I'm going to wash the pots...tell him he's welcome to come for seconds..."
He nodded a little and walked towards the room they had been told about. He found Toby. He wasn't even sat on the bed. He was on his knees, sobbing in the middle of the room.
"Toby...?"
"...I know this place."
"Toby, what do you mean?" He rested a hand on the boys shoulder.
"....I know her. This...this..."
"Shh..calm down..." He hugged Toby the younger shaking in his grasp as his eyes darted around the room.
He remembered. Fragments. It was all coming back to him. That room. That place. The people he called a family. The girl in the car with him. This house.

He squirmed. "Brian we have to go..."

"Why?"
"I can't stay here."
"Why?"
"It...hurts."
"Toby there's no where else. We were lucky she let us in.."
"Brian she's my mum. That's my fucking mum. What if she recognises me. What will I do?"
He grabbed his shoulders roughly forcing the male to look him in the eye. "she won't. She would have by now. You just play it off as a concidence. It's one night Toby. One damn night with actual sleep."

"You won't leave me? Will you?" He whimpered.
"No, I'll stay here. C'mon. You need to sleep." Brian pulled him up to the bed which caused him to hesitate before settling down.

"Hold me, please." Toby mumbled.
Brian smiled a little and snuggled up to him wrapped his arms around him and erring the younger burry his face in his chest, feeling safe in the security of his arms.
