"Pencils...pencils...pencils" I muttered under my breath.
Where are those pencils? Do they not sell pencils at Target!?!? I thought to myself.
I walked through the office supplies section, looking carefully for the specific brand I loved.
There it is! I grabbed the pack and went over to the cash registers. The lines were all outrageously long, so I just picked one randomly. The line moved really quickly, and I was at the front before I even knew it.
"A pack of pencils that aren't sharpened? Isn't that kinda pointless?" the cashier asked me.
Just like this conversation, I thought to myself.
"Haha very funny" I said sarcastically. The cashier was pretty cute. He had her black hair with dark brown eyes. He had a few freckles around his nose. His name tag said Steven.
"Need a bag?" Steven asked.
"No thanks".
He gave me my total and I paid, then left. I hopped into my car and drove back home. It looked like it was about to rain, so I drove quickly. I hated driving in the rain. I got halfway home when it started drizzling. It was only a light drizzle but it still made me nervous.
I managed to reach my appartment before it started pouring. I forgot my key at home, so I prayed my roommate Carrie was home. I knocked on the door and, thank goodness, she me in.
"Oh my GOD Sarah you'll never believe what just happened" Carrie said to me.
"What? Did something bad happen when I was out!" Carrie had a tedancy to be a bit... how should I put it.... a bit unsafe when she was cooking. She liked to dane while she cooked, often times doing the craziest moves while wielding a knife. She had the bad habit of overcooking her food because she leaves the stove on. Dear Lord, do I smell something burning?
"Ummm no, something amazing happened. Evan texted me! He texted me first! Can you believe it!!"
"Really, that's so exciting" I said unenthusiastically.
Evan was one of the most attractive boys we knew. We met when I was working at a fancy restaurant downtown. We were both waiters at the time. We instantly clicked the second we started talking. It didn't hurt that he was about 6'3" with stunning blonde hair and clear blue eyes. I brought him over to the appartment for dinner one night when Carrie was supossed to be out. She got home early, saw Evan, and instantly fell in love. The tricky thing is, I like Evan too.
"I know isn't it the best! He asked me if I wanted to go to the movies with him tonight!" Carrie squealed.
Ummm no, it's not the best, I thought to myself. Evan and I were supossed to get together! Not Evan and Carrie.
"Yeah that's great" I replied.
"Sooo I'll be in the bathroom for the next 3 hours making myself look beautiful and I'll call you if I need anything. K thanks bye!"
How considerate, I thought. Oh well, it's a TV night for me while she goes and steas my man. That's just fantastic. I guess I can see why he'd pick her over me. She's so pretty with her straight, red hair, and striking green eyes.
I was halfway through my first show when Carrie yelled for my help. It was klutzy Carrie, so I assumed the worst.
"Did you fall?! Burn yourself with a curling iron?! Spill your foundation all over yourself!!???" I asked as I ran into the bathroom.
"What, no. I can't find my razor. I kinda want to wear a skirt tonight, maybe a dress, so I need to shave. I need to borrow yours, but can't find it either."
Goodness, you're going on a date with Evan, not Nash Grier I thought to myself.
"Sorry Carrie, I just threw mine out because it was old".
"Well, y'know, it's stopped raining...Mind popping over to Target to get me one? Pretty please! This is EVAN we're talking about!"
All I wanted was to ruin her date with my future husband, but the nice friend in me thought otherwise.
"All right, I guess...But you owe me..I'm serious".
And so began my second trip to Target.
