I pushed the doors open to the café and quickly looked around. I filtered through the employees and gently bit my bottom lip. "hey, get out the way!" someone shouted from behind me. "oh. i-im sorry." I slid to the side a bit, not noticing that I was still standing in front of the door. I sighed as I didn't see her. I made my way over to a lonely table in the back and hid. Glancing down at my watch, I bounced my leg under the table. I looked up as I heard the bells on the door jingle. Right on time. Vernon stood in the door way and scanned the room, fixing the hat that sat on top of his head. As our eyes connected, he smiled and I waved him over to the table before sitting back down. I swallowed hard as I looked towards the counter. "why are you all the way back here?" he said laughing. "I'm hiding." I whispered back. Vernon shook his head and placed his headphones and phone on the table. "what's the whole point in hiding, if you came here to ask her out on a date." he crossed his arms against his chest and sat back in his chair. I ignored his statement. I keep nothing from Vernon. Hes honestly almost like a diary for me. "I thought you were here for moral support." I leaned towards Vernon and laced my fingers together on the table. "I am." he replied. "So, what should I say?" I asked. "Look man. You're just asking the girl on a date. Its not like you're asking for her kidney." he joked. "Just say, I think you're really pretty, lets get lunch sometime." Vernon nodded. "don't you think that's a little too forward?" he rolled his eyes. "Stop being so scared. Just go ask the girl out." He said point at the counter. I reached over and smacked his arm. "are you crazy. Why would you point in her direction! What if she saw?" I said quietly. "So what! Just go! You have an excuse, since I want a coffee and its your turn to treat." he said wiggling his eyebrows. "Americano, iced. Thanks." he waved me off. Before moving, I thought for a minute. "On second thought, I'm not ready yet. Let's just leave." I stood up from my chair and tried to make a bee-line towards the door. Vernon quickly caught my arm and pulled me back. "you're not running away again! Get up there!" he pushed me over to the counter then made his way back to the table. I stood in the middle of the café, with my hands to my sides.

My heart beat increased and I could feel my body going a bit numb. I slowly approached the counter and swallowed. The lady behind the register smiled at me, asking me what id like to order. I cleared my throat and looked down a bit before parting my lips. I ordered for Vernon and I, scanning the area to look for her. As I began to slip my card out of my pocket, she turned the corner and tossed her curly hair off her shoulder. She looked stressed and it seemed like she was about to cry. I froze. I held onto my card tightly as the lady tried to take it away from me. "um sir.." she laughed a bit. I couldn't take my eyes off her. "sir, I need-" her eyes met mine and I quickly looked away. "oh sorry." I handed over the card. I awkwardly placed my hands in my pockets and looked back at Vernon. He was silently laughing and clapping his hands together. I sighed heavily then looked back at the cashier. She handed me my card and I shoved it in my pocket. I thanked her then slowly made my way over to the side to wait for our drinks, and of course she was making them. This is my chance to speak with her, face to face. I looked at her name tag. Serenity Rose. Her skin was tan and she was a bit tall, but shorter than me. She moved with a quickness and topped my drink off with whipped cream. As she placed the tops on the drinks, she looked up and forced a gentle smile. "For Joshua." she quickly grabbed two straws and placed them on the counter. I reached out while making eye contact with her. "enjoy." she said softly. I grabbed our drinks and felt the courage leave my body. "um.. Excuse me." I muttered. Serenity turned around and wiped her hands on her apron, smiling once again. "yes, did I forget something?" she laughed nervously. Her teeth shined in the light. It was bright and innocent. So perfect. I couldn't speak as she looked at me. Her brown eyes were trying to take my soul and I was resisting. "does it taste bad?" her eyes widened. "no." I answered back quickly. "I was just wondering.. If you.." she tilted her head and blinked a few times. "nevermind." I shook my head and closed my eyes. I couldn't do it. I walked away, disappointed and watching the ground. "damn it, Joshua." I whispered.

In that moment as I was thinking to myself, I felt an intense impact on my body. I fell back and the coffee went everywhere. The café was filled with gasps and low 'oh my gods.' It spilled all over the floor and on my clothes. Vernon stood up and ran over to me. "are you okay?" I nodded and quickly sat up. "Watch where you're going, punk." Vernon eyed the male and furrowed his brows before helping me back to my feet. Serenity came from around the counter with a bucket of water and a mop. She leaned it against the wall then approached me. "oh my god- are you alright? Please, let me make you some more drinks. Free of charge." she nodded as she grabbed a few napkins from her apron and wiped the whipped cream from my cheek. "oh, no. really its okay." I took the napkin from her hand and touched her knuckles. "Not my fault anyway." The male said laughing. Serenity eyed the male and rolled her eyes. "just get out of here, Keith." she snapped at him. His sly smile faded and he eyeing the floor. He laughed once more then made his way towards the door, exiting the café.

I forced a smile then looked down at the floor. "I'm really sorry about the mess." with the same napkin, I crouched down and began to clean up the floor. It soaked up the coffee and made the napkin paper thin. "Please, let me. You're a customer, I got this." she placed her hand on my shoulder and smiled down at me. "yeah, come on. Lets get back to the hotel." Vernon said softly. He grabbed my arm and we began to walk towards the door. Before leaving the shop, I tossed the napkin in the trash then pushed through the doors. I grabbed the hem of my shirt and groaned angrily. "I'm so stupid." Vernon approached me from behind and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. "You're not stupid. Stop. It was just an accident." he said sighing. "I couldn't do it, man." I said turning towards him. I stopped walking and looked up at the sky. "She probably thinks im an idiot." stretching my arms out behind my head, I closed my eyes. "sit." Vernon pushed me over to a nearby bench as he sat down next to me. "It's not a big deal. She'll probably forget by the end of the day. Besides, if anyone in that café was an idiot- it was the douchebag who bumped into you." he patted my shoulder to comfort me. "I'm so embarrassed." I whispered. Vernon looked down at his phone as it rang in his hand. "mm, It's Mingyu." he quickly answered and spoke into the phone. I sat there, thinking of how bad I felt for leaving her there, to clean up my mess. A few minutes later, Vernon ended the phone call with Mingyu. "He ordered some food, wanna join us?" I looked over at him and shook my head. "I'm not really hungry. You go ahead." Vernon tilted his head. "So you're just going to sit here by yourself?" he asked. "I don't know, I might just go to one of these nearby shops. Get some clothes." I said shrugging. "Well- call me when you're on your way home and be safe. We'll save some food for you." he stood and gently smiled. "you'll be okay." with that, he walked away and I watched him.
