It was going to happen sooner or later. Russia and the United States have been on crumbling ground since the 20th century. It was only a matter of time before war was used to solve the feud between the two countries. It was called Voyna Vlasti but was translated into War of Power and if death was hungry, they brought a buffet. Fear sat down, watching the bloodbath excitedly with a bag of popcorn. How did this even begin? Was it because of the reports of the United States capturing and murdering their K-19 group of soldiers or was Russia stealing private government files that could threaten the reputation of the US? The answer will never be clear, but with a bang in Kentucky, it started a war.

Nobody interfered, the thought of being caught in between the fiery battle was unsettling and so they watched from the sidelines. The United States was weakening drastically, and their people were losing hope as fast as they gained it. It would have ended without a hitch if this one genius, Alex H. Langer, hadn't proposed a plan, which led to a revolutionary act. It was held in a lab and Bruce Smith, my great-grandfather, was one of the first ones to be tested after further investigation on the mysterious liquid. These people were now fighting death machines with power that only Stan Lee could make up in one of his comics. This was real life however. They were under the government's control and they overwhelmed the country of Russia mercilessly. The war officially ended with quick negotiations on December 15, 2103, and the soldiers were coming back home, most of them. Bruce died during the war, leaving my great-grandmother, May Smith, alone with an unexpected child.

My grandfather, Javen Smith, was born with terrifying features. His skin was a squid black ink and his eyes were the bloodiest red known to man. The nurses thought it was Lucifer becoming into the world, trying to take them down to hell for their unruly sins, but May had another thought. When she laid eyes on him, a small laugh escaped her chapped lips. She held her child and spoke these tired words, "You look just like your daddy." He slept against her breast as she rested in her bed. Upon waking up, she was shocked to see her child a mocha brown with hazel eyes, like her own. He was a beautiful baby.

The soldiers that came home from the War of Power were much different than when they first left. They were isolated and kicked out by loved ones, who were afraid of them. A group called the Organization of Trait Execution (OTE) would murder people if they were discovered with what people would begin to call the power, a trait. They were described as the Ku Klux Klan, except race didn't play a part in this. It didn't matter your race, gender, age or sexual orientation, if you had a trait and they found you, you were as good as dead. Back in 2110 on September 12, a 5-year-old, Anna Weber, was reported to be beaten, hung and shot in the chest, the stomach and between her eyes as she was caught by a group of OTEs, who saw her lightly floating grass without touching them. Her mother found the body of the child a few hours later, floating in a nearby pond when it was time for her to come inside.

The government addressed the issue as they saw the increase of death by the OTE. President Valenti passed the "Binding of Civil Justice" in 2119, this new law united the ones with traits with the traitless. President Valenti would constantly defend the traits and assure the people that everyone was safe. It was a rough start, but after a few years went by, peace began to settle between the two people and the OTE scattered, only a few remaining in the corporation. However, peace doesn't last forever.
