Welcome back to the continuation of Unwed (formerly Unwed Mom's Club). The Fallen Girls was a term used for women who got pregnant before marriage. Oftentimes this term was used by people who ran the homes for unwed mothers. I felt it a fitting title for the next part of this book.
Here's a little bit about my inspiration for this story. I worked as a home visiting nurse for eight years in a program that served young mothers, many of whom were facing pregnancy by themselves for a variety of reasons. Although it's no longer such a taboo, young women still went through a lot of what Izzy went through like betrayal, body shaming, fear of labor, and postpartum depression. This is what led me to develop the strong nurse role (Mara) I incorporated into Unwed.
I come from a very musical family. When I was a teen I had a girl group called Ladies First. Unfortunately, we didn't become famous, but we did a lot of gigs and recorded some songs in a studio. I've always loved music, so I wanted to incorporate it into the story as well with Wes and the Flames. The Fallen Girls will go more into the 1950s music industry and the Hollywood scene.
Hope you enjoy The Fallen Girls!
