21 days to break a heart, how hard can it possibly be?

Erianna (Erynn) Hayes is the golden girl of the school, charming and beautiful, she's known for her ability to sweep boys off their feet and wrapped around her finger in no time.

Having had her fair share of bad boys and school jocks, she accepts a dare from a schoolmate late one night, challenging her to steal the heart of a certain boy, who seems totally detached and bored of the whole world, ignoring everybody else, including her. And break it, after the course of three weeks.

A golden girl. 21 days. And whatshisname.

Piece of cake.

It should be, right?

Music was playing in the background of Deirdre's house as we sat in a fairly large circle, our fortnightly gathering for Ladies' Night ended traditionally with Truth or Dare.

I stared at the glass bottle pointing right at me.

"Truth or Dare, Erianna?"

I looked up at Marlene. She met my gaze challengingly, teasing me even.

She's a bitch. To me.

Annoyingly to me only, and no one else. So everyone loves her.

Everyone knows Marlene is competitve and never gives up. So if she gives you a dare, you're so not backing out. She'll never let you chicken out from your dare without reminding you every day about your failure to keep your word.

In my case, it probably would be every two seconds.

I swallowed. "Dare."

The crowd cheers for my possible death while my friends look at me in alarm.

Marlene smiles at me, her lips laced with venom. With that crazy look in her deep blue eyes, I bet she's already got something really bad for me up her sleeves.

"I dare you, Erianna," She pauses for dramatic effect. "to date Quentin Wilson for three weeks. And leave him brokenhearted after that."

She smiles to herself like she just plotted my death.

And all I feel like doing is laughing out loud. Who the hell is that?

"Who's that? Never heard of him." I let out a light laugh but her freaky look doesn't fade away.

"Oh, he's just sort of a wallflower. Unknown to most of the population of Berwick High."

I snorted. "What do you do in your free time? Stalk people to pair me up with?"

Avery gave me a worried glance from behind Marlene's shoulder, but she laughed along anyway to lighten the atmosphere. I gave her a small smile.

Marlene's facial expression seemed to falter just a little bit. "No, of course I don't, genius."

"I'm glad to see you're acknowledging my intelligence."

She heaved a sigh. "Are you taking the dare or not?" She pushed her curly dark hair behind her ears.

"Yes, of course. Is that all?"

She rolled her eyes. "Yes."

Quentin Wilson, school wallflower? Sounds like a piece of cake to me.

I think.
