"dad! Today was awful!" I exclaimed sitting down harshly on the couch and sighing,

"What happened sweetie?" Asks my dad coming to me with two cups of tea, well my adopted dad, he found me as a baby 17 years ago and took me in, I wasn't even a year old yet and they just abandoned me,

"My dyslexia is bloody killing me, not to mention the ADHD." We live in outer London in a damp old flat,

"Well maybe, moving with help."

"Oh come on dad, how would moving to New York in the U.S help my dyslexia or my ADHD?"

"Well it'll be a new environment and new people and the flats there are much cheaper, we just can't afford it anymore."

"I believe they call them apartments, see their words are even weird like how they say aluminum instead of al-u-miniam, and instead of wanker they say-" I rant but he stops me,

"We're moving and that's final."

"What about your boyfriend?" I ask, my dad is gay,

"He broke up with me a week ago, so we don't have to worry we can leave without being noticed now we're moving no matter what."

"Fine it's not like I have any friends here anyways." I grumble and my dad goes to his room,

'This is going to be quite interesting.' I think to myself.

4 months later...
I get off the plane and wait for my small black luggage bag to be given to me after about 20 minuets it finally appears, I grab  it, my dad and I walk out of the bustling airport onto the even more bustling sidewalk of New York and I look around, taking in my surroundings,

"So this is the infamous New York...
It smells of sewer." I say,

"Come on Zuri, look on the bright side of things."

"And what's that?"

"Umm new experiences, their always nice."

"There is such a thing as a bad experience."

"Come on you'll like it here I promise."

"Whatever." I say putting in my ear buds and listening to 'No man is an Island.' By The Script, I look down my feet as I fallow my father to our new home, he stops and I look up at a tall old brown apartment building,

"Our apartment is next door to the Jackson's they have a boy your age as well, maybe you guys could become friends."

"Maybe." I say and we walk up the many flights of stairs and eventually make it to our apartment, we walk in and set out stuff down, I go to my room which is small with one window, bed on the wall near the door, a couple of bedside tables, and a dresser, I sigh and flop down onto the springy bed, I hear a knock on the door and sigh,

"Zuri sweetheart can you get that?" Asks my dad and I lazily get up, I slowly walk to the door and open it, see a short old woman with long brown hair and a tall boy with brown hair and blue eyes, he was cute, maybe I would enjoy it here,

"Hello I am Sally Jackson and this is my son Percy."

"Nice to meet you, I am Zuri Hinson and that man back there is my father Phill." I say moving slightly showing my dad behind me,

"Would you like to come in for some tea or coffee?" I ask and they nod, I move over and they sit down on the couch,

"I'll have coffee." Says Sally,

"I'll have nothing, thanks." Says Percy, I nod and dig the coffee maker out of a box, I plug it in and start it up, my father sits on the couch across the Jackson's and I start some tea for him,

"So what's London like?" Asks Sally,

"Oh it's quite beautiful." I say,

Skip small talk... the next day...

I wake up the next morning I put on my white tank top and short jean jacket that only covers half my back, I slip on my ripped jeans and small black boots, I grab my brown back pack that's riddled with holes and head to the door,

"Schools not far so I'm going to walk, I'll see you this afternoon."

"Ok, be carful."

"I will." I say as I walk out the door, I lock it and stuff the key in my pocket,

"Zuri?" Asks a smooth, handsome voice that I would know anywhere, it that hot boy from yesterday, Percy,

"Hello Percy." I say with a polite smile,

"I was wondering if you Maybe want to you know walk to school together." He says nervously,

"I would love to." I say and he smiles.

A/N: now I know that British have apartments and flats but to tell u the truth I Don't know the difference so the argument that a flat is an apartment is purly just something that Zoe's 16 year old mind came up with.
