On a hot, dry, summer day, a magnificent wall stretches hundreds of miles along the Gobi Desert. However, this wall is still under construction.
In a massive tower on top of the wall is a ruthless leader more horrible then you can imagine. So horrible that he kills thousands of people just for the fun of it.
His name is Shi Huangdi.
I am about to risk everything. If I fail, I face a slow, painful death. I will be dipped in burning oil feet first. Then, I will be slowly lowered to my head, but before that, I would be forced to watch my family and friends suffer the same fate. However, if I succeed, people will rise up and rebel against Shi Huangdi’s remaining subjects, and all of China will be free.
I am creeping along the wall when I see a huge tower. “That must be where he's hiding,” I think to myself.
Then, I notice something – the workers are placing hundreds of bones inside the wall. This whole wall is full of bones!
I see three guards at the entrance to the tower, so I creep around to try to find another way inside. However, there isn’t. I step on something and it makes a loud “crack”. A bone! I hope they didn’t hear me!
I’ll have to get past the workers somehow in order to enter the tower. Some of the workers are hanging clothes on a wooden post. I decide to steal the clothes and disguise myself as a worker to get past the guards. I try not to look suspicious by whistling and walking in circles with my hands behind my back, but before I get to the door, one guard shouts, “Halt, what’s your business here?”
“I err….have an important message for the Emperor.”
“Very well, you may pass,” the guard said in a reluctant voice.
I climb halfway up the stairs in the tower and I hear footsteps. Am I being followed? I look down, but I do not see anyone, so I head on.
I think to myself, “I could just walk away and no one would notice.” What I’m about to do is so risky. If I fail, my wife and my two sons will face execution. Well, I won’t fail then. After my mother was buried alive with hundreds of other Daoist followers, I swore that I would put an end to Shi Huangdi’s rein.
Now, I’m at the top of the tower and I see Shi Huangdi in his royal court; he is being entertained by jesters, and they are feeding him grapes. I grab my sword and charge, but… its all over I feel a pain in my stomach. It was like seeing the most beautiful thing being stolen from you the instant you got it. I look down and see a large metallic blade piercing through my body. As I collapse, I think about how everything I ever lived for was all a waste. My wife… my sons – their heads will be on his wall if I don’t do something… anything. With all my strength, I look behind me and see the guard at the door. The lanterns on the wall become brighter. Like the sun rising over the sea; so bright but everything else is dark; darker then night on a new moon. The light is blinding, but I can still see Shi Huangdi’s laughing face.
