For myself

It was snowing in Tokyo, gentle white flakes covered every side street and building, blanketing the city in fog and numbing the bright colours.

Numbing.

That was a good word for it; the feeling of distraction.

numb
nʌm/Submit

1.
(of a part of the body) deprived of the power of physical sensation.
"my feet were numb with cold"
verb
1.
deprive of feeling or responsiveness.
"the cold had numbed her senses"
synonyms: deadening, desensitizing, benumbing, anaesthetizing.

Yeah, numbing.

The one thing that broke the trance for you was coffee, it's hot bitterness on your tongue forcefully bringing you back to reality.

Hence, you were in your favourite cafe, sipping your unsweetened drink and recoiling slightly every time.

"Why are you doing that?"
You glanced up to see a woman, her mint hair messy and knotted, her pale skin luminescent in the light glaring through the windows.
She grinned slightly.

"You obviously don't like it, so why would you force yourself to drink it? I'm curious why a human would do such a thing."

The way she said "a human" made it seem like she wasn't one...

You gulped.
"Well...It...keeps me aware. Tokyo seems so asleep lately, I like to notice everything."

She laughed, and it sounded more beautiful than the delicate icicles hanging precariously outside.

Why? Why is my heart beating so fast?

She sat lightly in the seat opposite you.

"What's your name?"

Your lips quivered for a moment, before answering.

She pulled a face.

"No, that won't do. I like (nickname) better."

"(Nickname)?" You echoed.

"Mmmhmm." She nodded.

"Well, what's your name?" You asked in turn.

A smirk transformed her face.
"Eto Yoshimura."

You smiled nervously.
"Nice to meet you, Yoshimura-"

"Call me Eto."

"Ahh, Eto, nice to meet you."

Thrumming her fingers on the table, she leaned forward slightly.

"Tell me, (nickname), why do you interest me so much? The moment you walked into this cafe you stood out. What makes you special?"

You blushed furiously, unable to meet her intense gaze.
"I-I, me? Special? No! I-I don't know-"

She giggled.
"Okay, well, I'd like to see you again. Maybe next time we can find out together? Hmm?"

You looked up at her out of shock.
That was a mistake, as soon as she had your eye contact you were in a stronger trance than the snow had on the city.

"Yes." You breathed.

Eto pulled a small business card out of her
pocket and pressed it into your hand.

Just that simple action, that small touch, sent shivers down your spine.

She tucked a lock of your (h/c) hair behind your ear before jumping out of her chair and leaving the coffee shop just as quickly as she had arrived.

Her lingering smell of sugar and something sharp, like iron, left your body paralysed.

Numb.

Eto Yoshimura made you feel anything but numb, she made you feel awake.
Like a million bolts of electricity were shooting through your veins.

Amazing, Eto Yoshimura was plainly incredible.
