I guess I should start at the beginning. It was over two years ago. At least from what I recall. Time stands still where I live. So don't trust me on that.
.......

My father had gotten a new job on the oil patch. Which meant we had to move out of province. He found a plot of land that was 'perfect' for me and my older brother to grow up in. Even though I was already 16 and he was 18. That house was anything but perfect. It was very well aged. Older than my grandparents from my assumption.
The moment I gazed up at the house my eyes caught the attic window it was too dark to see but I felt like someone was staring from behind the glass, it sent shivers up my spine.
"Don't you two love it?!" my dad asked while squeezing my shoulders tightly. Me and my brother caught eachothers gaze. Gavin my brother had a dreaded look on his face. I rolled my eyes and smiled at my father. Forcing enthusiasm from my mouth.
"Yes Dad we love it" I said excitedly. I gave Gavin a stern look. Play along you bastard.
Gavin grumbled "Yea...sure.."
My dads eyes lit up
"You two will love it here! I mean look around us! We are surronded by trees and nature. What else could you want??"
"My friends." Gavin said spitefully. He grabbed his bags and stormed inside. Leaving my dad looking hurt. I said nothing. I didn't have any friends so i didnt mind the move here.
"Well Lyra you should go inside and pick your room" my dad breaking the tension.
"Yes dad" i went inside.
I begun checking all the rooms. Not one catching my eye. There was over five bedrooms and Gavin standing in the biggest room.
"Jeez gav this room is the smallest" I said sarcastically
"Jeeeez shuddup Ly" he stuck his tongue out. "Admit your jealous I got this room first! maybe you should take the one at the end of the hall way"
I rolled my eyes and walked away. I looked at the end of the hall way and there was a door with a lock on it. I tried opening it. It was locked no surprise. It must be the attic I thought. My curiosity peeked. I yelled out.
"DAAAD!"
Silence
"DAAAAADDDD" I yelled louder. Still no answer. I grumbled and went looking for him. Around the back yard is where I saw him talking to Gavin...wasn't Gavin upstairs a moment ago? I didn't even see him come down. I ran out.
"Dad!"
I broke the obvious tension between him and Gavin.
"We will talk about it later Gavin." My dad said sternly. Gavin stormed back off in the house.
"Whats up Lyra?" he smiled at me. Ive always been the daddys girl, even before my mother's passing.
"Dad is there a key to the attic?"
"Yes there is. The lady who sold me the house said there was some old stuff up there left by previous tenants. She said we could look through them and pick out the things we might want and to throw away the rest."
My curiosity heightened.
"Can we open it now?"
"Sure why not m'dear"
