Prologue

RIKERS POV:

Our tour kicked off about two weeks ago and all the fans have been great for concerts and all, but some go too far and others are really rude to others and I just can't say anything because then I am the bad guy. I need a drink, I'll just go to the bar down the street. We are in New York right now but in a hotel in Bayshore, Long Island because a week from now we have a show on Long Island, and we just finished a show in the city yesterday. I entered the bar and took a seat at the counter. It seemed like a busy night about five others sat next to me. There were only two bartenders tonight, one young tan skinned girl with beautiful curly hair tied up into a high ponytail. The other bartender was a guy around my age with light brown hair. He was handling three others sitting to my right. The tan young girl gave a Smirnoff to the guy to my left and then walked in front of me where I was sitting.

She had these dark brown eyes looking straight at me as if she already knew my whole life. She smiled and a dimple appeared. She looked happy, a feeling I wish I could feel right now. She then spoke.

????: you look upset, what's wrong?

Riker: I had a bad week that's all, do you think you have some water. I don't want any alcohol yet.

????: sure of course.

Her voice was lovely. She turned around to get me the cup of water. I didn't know what it was about her, but there was something about her.

????: would you like a lemon on the rim of the cup?

Riker: no thank you.

????: okay well here you go. So how has your week been, that you look so upset?

Riker: thank you. Well, its nothing big it's just sometimes people go too far. You know what I mean?

????: I know exactly what you mean. How bad has it gotten, you seem halfway dead?

Riker: some people treat others like they were garbage and I can't do anything if not I am the bad guy. Then others just keep interrupting me even if I am busy or on the phone, or if I am with my family. I don't mind it but some people can be aggressive in doing so.

????: that stinks. Why do they do that to you?

Riker: it's because of my job. Don't get me wrong though I love my job, it's just this past week they have been like that every day and I'm getting tired of it.

????: as long as you like what you are doing with your life. Does it ever get better?

Riker: it does get better and I do like what I do.

????: then take a little breather you know it will get better soon enough.

Riker: your right. Thank you, I'm sorry I didn't catch your name.

????: oh my name is Melody.

Riker: that's a pretty name. I'm Riker.

Melody: Well Riker would you like another water?

Melody took my empty cup of water. Then the other Bartender came and whispered something into her ear. Maybe they were a thing, how could they not be, she is pretty and kind. He left her, she was the last bartender. Most people were already being helped so it wasn't much.

Riker: umm can I get a classic margarita?

Melody: yeah of course.

Melody got me the margarita.

Riker: so you're the only bartender now?

Melody: just for a little he has to get some more Heinekens from the back.

Riker: ah, okay.

Melody: so Riker are you visiting Long Island or you work around here?

Riker: I'm just visiting for the week.

Melody: oh so you're leaving soon?

Riker: I'll be leaving in about a week.

Melody: well I hope you enjoy what Long Island may have to offer in these few days.

Riker: me too, I mean my first day here was great, I met you.

Melody: thank you but you should enjoy some things around here as well.

Riker: maybe if the people stop bothering me. So how long have you and your boyfriend been a thing?

I pointed to the other bartender as he walked back, So she knew who I was talking about.

Melody: what? Oh no, I'm single he is just a co-worker and friend in a way.

Riker: oh I'm sorry I thought you guys were a thing.

Melody: no it's fine don't worry.

Riker: okay well Melody since I'll be here for a few more days where do you recommend I go?

Melody: well I don't exactly know I don't get out much but you should go to tropical smoothie.

Riker: is it just a smoothie shop?

Melody: no they sell food too. You should go bowling too just to have some fun with your family.

Riker: maybe.

It was eleven-thirty and the other bartender looked at Melody and tapped his watch. I think she has to go.

Melody: Sorry Riker my shift is over and I have to get home. Maybe I'll see you around.

Riker: wait, Melody.

I got a napkin and a pen from my shirt pocket and I wrote my phone number down and my name just in case.

Riker: maybe I can go bowling with you while I'm here. Have a safe ride home.

Melody: maybe and thanks, you too.

The young tan-skinned beauty then left. Who knows if I will get to see her again. I hope so. I got up and walked down the street back to the hotel.
