“Hurry up!” yelled Percy “We’ve already wasted 2 hours. Mum’s probably wondering where we are!”
“Ron, Hermione come on!” Harry yelled.
They finally reached Percy’s mom’s house. It wasn’t that big. In fact, it was only an apartment. With one bedroom , one bathroom and a guest room.
“Hello.” said Percy’s mom. “I was cooking blue food for Percy. Harry would you like to try it?”
Harry thought for a moment and the said yes. He tried it and found it was the best food Harry had ever ate, next to Hogwarts. As he was helping himself to seconds, Harry said. “Hermione it’s already 10:00!”
“Wow! I can’t believe time went so fast!” Ron said.
“No, Crookshanks!” said Hermione from the table. Crookshanks was Hermione’s cat. He was orange and fluffy. Crookshanks was digging in Harry’s overnight bag, looking for something to eat.
“Oh yeah why were you so late?” Sally asked after a while.
“Oh, Harry passed out.” said Percy
“What?” Sally said
“Oh Dementors.” Percy said
“Dementors?” Sally demanded.
“They are foul creatures.” said Harry.
“Well what made them leave then?” Sally asked.
“ I used a charm on them. It’s called the Patronus charm. You think of a very happy memory, and say ‘expecto patronum’!”
“I see.” Sally said. “So time for bed.”
“Okay where do we sleep?” Harry asked. “Well we have sleeping bags in Percy’s room. Only 2 though….. Ron, Hermione you can have the sleeping bags.”
“Then where are you going to sleep mum?” Percy asked.
“Don’t we have Gabe’s old bed?”
“Yeah but it’s a mattress. Harry you want to sleep on it?”
“OK.” Harry said, not wanting to take advantage of their hospitality.
“Okay it’s settled.” Sally said, satisfied.
“To Percy’s room!” Ron exclaimed, running off.
“Ron, it’s that way.” Percy said, amused.
“To that way!” Ron yelled, running in the other direction.
“Okay, goodnight mum.” Percy said.
The next day for breakfast, they had bread. There was someone new at the table.
“Who’s that?” said Ron.
“Oh, that’s Grover.” said Percy. Grover smiled, and took a big bite out of an aluminum can. Harry, Ron, and Hermione stared at him. They were eating bread that looked burnt.
“We’re off, because we have to go train at Camp Half-Blood.” Percy said, getting up.
“Camp what?” said Ron.
“Camp Half-Blood Ronald.” said Hermione, rolling her eyes.
“It’s a place where demigods train to fight against monsters.” Percy explained. “The only safe place out there for us, really.”
“M-m-monsters?” Ron asked.
“What you’re not scared are you?” Percy asked teasingly.
“Well I’ve battled Dark wizards intent on blasting me to smithereens, but I’ve never battled monsters before, so yes I am very scared.” Ron retorted.
“I have.” said Harry absently.
“What?” Percy demanded. Harry, Ron and Hermione explained about the Chamber of Secrets.
“Percy, we’re gonna be late.” Grover said urgently, finishing off his can.
“Oh yeah. OK, come on, guys. We’re going to Camp Half-Blood!” Percy said cheerfully. “Let’s just hope they don’t kill you!”
“Yeah.” Ron muttered. “Let’s hope.”
