As soon as Blaku stepped foot onto the campgrounds, there was an instant chill that left every sunbathing half-dragon scurrying into there cabins. His icy powers conspired against the pulsing heat of the day, making everyone wonder if early - very early - winter was upon us. He was the person that left you shivering when he walked into the room. His psychotic ability to make innocent people cower down to him was the very epitome of why he was hated. By me, most of all.

The air was finally heating up, recovering from the days earlier engagements. One particularly involving both my best friend and my enemy. Odelle laid staggered in my arms, her arms wrapped tightly around my neck. The girl was near unconsciousness, Blaku’s earlier attempts taking a toll on her fragile body.

It was hard keeping her wings from dragging against the ground, as I tried to balance her frame in a way so the piercing horns atop her head didn’t puncture my shoulder. Her head lulled back and forth, her glistening eyes drooping low then back up again. My feet stumbled as I focused more on making sure she stays awake than my poor footwork.

I let a heavy sigh escape from my mouth. My lengthy purple hair clung to the sweat trailing down my uninsulated neck and I could already picture my face bright red. It was close to ten minutes before I saw the cabin which housed the life-dragons. It was fairly difficult to not be able to identify their spacey cabin. Not because the exterior was flashy, but because it was the exact opposite. You’d think that of all the cabins, theirs would have the most life to it.

My hand cramped up from beneath Odelle as I difficulty maneuvered my hands to where I could reach the iron knob. It took two attempts, but I finally managed to push up against the door and open it. I tripped into the area, where a cluster of fastly operating half-dragons rushed in and out of a separate room. They all seemed severely busy, attempting to get things back in order around the cabin. Yet, I was quickly able to spot someone in the corner of the room, lazily flipping through a book about human anatomy.

Her hair was close to the color burgundy, complimenting the deep warm tones in her brown skin. The girl had a younger face and short wings. It was obvious that she was a first year and I didn’t want to catch her off guard, but Odelle needed healing fast. I coughed loudly enough for her to jerk her head up and quickly shut the book resting on her lap.

“Y-yes”, the girl sputtered, “is there something I can help you with”.

I layed Odelle down gently on top of one of the sofa’ aligned against the walls. Right beside where the girl was sitting. I nodded my head, gesturing to Odelle.

“I need a healer”, I began looking around for anyone I knew, “she has….I think 5 broken ribs on her right side”.

I saw her eyes light up, as if she was realizing something. She jumped up in response, hurrying over to where I set Odelle down and crouched low. She peeled Odelle’s shirt up just below her breast, revealing a set of purple bruises down her side.
