Far From Perfect

Chapter 3

I immediately started crying. Though I tried to stop, it was late because my parents noticed and then they hugged me.

"What happened honey?"-mom asked

"I remembered what happened last night."

"What?"-they said in unison

"I found my birth certificate."

They looked into each other eyes and went to the couch to sit. My mom was shaking and dad was looking deep and he looked like he was thinking. I on the other was busy crying.

"We wanted to tell you this long time ago."-my dad started "First, we taught that we should tell you on your 12th birthday, then on your 14th, and then 16th and then 2 months ago when you turned 18. We just couldn't, we were scared that you will leave us. We are so sorry honey."

"What happened for the love of God? Will you just say it? Can't you see I am dying over her?!"-I screamed

"Honey you were adopted."-Those words were echoing through my head. I couldn't stay there. I ran out of my house still crying and sobbing. I ran like I was Usain Bolt. I stopped to sit in the park 'cause I was tired, when he showed up and hugged me.

"You..."-I started but he interrupted me

"Maya, who made you cry. Tell me who, and I will break his bones."

Right now, in front of my eyes was my childhood friend who moved away 2 years ago, Zack. He changed a lot. I mean a lot. I guess puberty really worked in his favor. Even him just being here made my day. 

"Wha..what are you do...doing here?"-I managed to say

"Real question is what are you doing here."-Zack said by emphasizing the word you with the look that said 'You know I can find out even if you don't tell me'. We talked on the phone ones a month and it was obvious that he didn't change his personality and now he was in front of me to confirm those thoughts. I don't know what to think about him being here, mostly because  I was worried that he ran away from his parents. Actually, I know one thing and that is that he is the perfect person to help me in my weird and frightening situation. So, I told him everything. After I was done talking he told me that he is here because he was admitted to college and that his parents moved here before.

"Now when I calmed your nerves about my whole moving thing let me tell you few things about your....thing."-he said

"You can just say adoption."-I interrupted him

"OK. Your parents love you and I understand them a little bit. They were afraid that you might be so angry that you would never talk to them. Maya, just give them a chance to talk about this. Even though you might don't want that. You don't have better people to talk about this. Sabrina and even I are not enough" 

"Yo..."-I tried to say  

"I have something else to say. I know how you will be interested in the reason why your biological parents gave you for adoption so I will help you find them. And, please don't even think about how they didn't want you and you were the reason for that because you were a kid and that couldn't be your fault. That could be only their fault because they lost someone incredible. And don't deny that because I know what goes on in your head."-Zack said while taking my hand in his. 

"You are creepy. You can't possibly know me that well."

"But I do."-he said with his signature smile that showed off his perfect white teeth. "Come on. I am taking you to your house."-I knew he was right so I got up and decided that I would confront my parents. We walked in comfortable silence, but then he asked something that led to me being wide-eyed

"You didn't tell me your biological parents names."

"Mendes Marc and.."-again I was interrupted

"I may knew your father."

"What do you mean you knew."

"He died 8 years ago. And you knew him too. "
