(JOEYS P.O.V)

"Make sure that you have all of your exercise books, equipment and packed lunch before you leave the house Joey" my Dad yelled.

This was my first day at Morristown High School, a day that I have been dreading for as long as I could remember.  I have never been a good student in middle school, I mainly just slacked. My dad never really cared to be honest, I was very surprised because when I was a little baby he worked as an English teacher and took education very seriously, but resigned to take care of me and kind of lost the knack of teaching ever since. He believed that my happiness came before anything else and if school bothered me that much, then I should just brush it under the carpet and do what was important to me. He also cared about me that little bit more because he is a single parent, after the passing of my mom in 2015 and wanted to make up for that. So over protectiveness and being spoiled is all part of that equation, but I wouldn't want to have it any other way.

Just as I was about to leave the house in my crisp new uniform and fresh trim, my dad placed his hands on my shoulder and added "My dear Joey, take care in school yeah? Socialise and make new friends, this time of your life determines what kind of person you will be in the future, so make it be a good one"

"Of course Dad, I've always made the right decisions" I say, questioning myself as it comes out of my mouth. "See you soon, love you"

"Okay, just be careful!!" my Dad exclaims as I close the door behind me.

I mean, its obviously not a bad thing that he is stupidly overprotective but it can get really tedious at times. I am 14 (nearly 15) years old and I can't even leave the house without being under his supervision. All my friends can!! Ugh it really isn't fair but I obviously can't go against his wishes or else I will suffer the consequences, and I really didn't want to suffer the consequences.

As I walk down the street, I turn my head back into the direction of my house, just to see if my dad was watching me like he usually does. Sure enough, he wasn't; which is very peculiar for him as only the other day he walked me to the ice cream van across the road as he 'didn't trust me' as I'm a 'child'. Peculiar indeed, it's not a bad thing to have a change of heart though- he is probably considering what kind of state he will put my reputation in if he carries on, which is good! High school is looking bright so far!
