Freefalling

Chapter 3

Hey guys, I'm really enjoying writing this one, there's lots going on in my head and I'm really keen to get it on paper (figuratively speaking) so expect lots of updates :) Please read and enjoy!

I wake up just in time to see the gorgeous sunset streaming in through my very large window. I love this window, it's massively open, but it faces an empty backyard with no one behind it so I don't have to worry about privacy.  After a few seconds of laying here peacefully, I realise what had woken me up.

"What!" I snap at my phone, annoyed that my bubble of happiness had been popped.

"Well I'm sorry miss crankypants" Soph's easily recognized voice pops through the phone, instantly making me feel guilty for snapping.

“Sorry Soph, I thought you were someone else, why were you calling?”

“I’ll tell you once you tell me who you thought I was,” she taunted evilly. Damn, I was hoping she’d miss that particular foot in mouth occasion.

“Just this guy who got my number and has been calling me, but I’m sure you have absolutely no idea how that happened?” I asked, enjoying how I had quickly become alpha of the conversation.

“Of course not!” she replied with mock innocence.

“Yeah, sure sure. Cut the innocent crap Soph, I know you know.”

“Oh alright, he had a major thing for you last night and hacked into my phone to get your number.” I didn’t believe a word of it.

“Soph, it is physically impossible for anyone other than me to hack into your phone, you have twelve seven digit long passwords. And no one has a major thing for someone after one night. What really happened?”

“Ok, so I may have accidentally slipped your number out, sorry, MAJOR foot in mouth moment, but he really did have a major thing for you.”

“Sure sure Soph, whatever you say. Alright, now my turn. Why did you call?”

“I just wanted to see if he’d called.” She said evilly, and I could hear the grin on her face through the phone, telling me that she spoke the truth.

“You little vixen! Ohhhh… I’m going to hurt you one day S,” I reply, thoroughly frustrated now.

“Oh Rose, you know I live to annoy you. Now, on the topic of getting you a life, I’m taking you to see Breaking Benjamin this Saturday.”

“Oh. My. God. (and I don’t often say that). You are taking me to Breaking Benjamin?!?!?! I love you!!!!” I scream into the phone.

“My friend, my friend, yes I am,” She said oh so wisely.

“Just saying, I paid extra to get you front row seats, and you are going to get picked to go onstage with him”

And with that, she abruptly hung up.

I lay there, letting her words sink in. I am a quiet person. I have a quiet sense of humor and I like to blend in to the background. I am an almost straight A student and I enjoy working hard. If there’s one thing I appreciate less than standing out, is standing in front of a crowd. I don’t know whether to love or hate her. After a couple of minutes of thought, I grudgingly decide on both. I must admit, I am looking forward to some aspects of this. I mean, I love Breaking Benjamin, and I love concerts, and I have been looking up his concert plans for a while now, and not only is he playing, Illy is playing beforehand! And I have a major thing Benjamin Burnley! And I get to go onstage with him! But I have to go on stage with him! And people will look at me! And see my face and maybe even remember me! This is going to go so badly wrong! I can’t do it!

I sit there arguing with myself and confirming that growing suspicion in the corner of my mind, that I really am insane. Ah well, to fix it, you must first admit you have a problem. I lay there to ponder this while the orange sky slowly turns to black outside my window.
