As she strode away with resolute steps, a part of me regretted letting her go alone. Yet, deep down, I knew she had to do this by herself. I promised myself I'd follow her in ten minutes. Little did I know, when I reluctantly attended that seemingly dull party my brother coerced me into, it would turn out to be one of my life's best decisions in five years.
"Brother, it's been five years. If she was anywhere in Asia, we would've found her by now," Donnie said.
"I don't care how long it takes or how much it costs. Pay, bribe, do whatever it takes, but find her," I retorted, frustration evident in my tone.
"Alex, I see how losing your mate is affecting you. We will find her. Perhaps attending the Williams and Sons party in Canada might yield some clues," he suggested. His words made sense. I had searched everywhere nearby; perhaps it was time to look elsewhere. The absence of my mate was numbing me, slowly eroding my will to live.
At the party, amidst a sea of humans, I felt her presence before I even saw her. My heart, which had felt nearly dead, began pounding fiercely. There she was, breathtakingly beautiful. But my joy turned to rage as I saw another man with his arms around her.
"Donnie, calm down. You've just found her; don't scare her off," he whispered, calming my fury.
That was yesterday. Since then, I discovered not only had my mate accepted me, but we also had three children together: Lucian, mature beyond his years; Lucien, shy but fiercely loyal; and my little princess, Lucy.
As the ten minutes passed, I felt a surge of fear from her. As her mate, I could sense her emotions, even if she couldn't feel mine. I arrived just in time to hear a gunshot and felt a pang of pain as if I'd been hit. In a blind rage, I confronted the shooter, incapacitating him but choosing not to kill him – my wife needed me more.
"Alexander, my love," she whispered faintly. I knew I had to act fast. Donnie arrived, and we rushed her home, knowing we had no choice but to turn her to save her life. The process was excruciating, her screams filled the room, and there was a chance she might not survive the transformation.
Donnie prepared everything for her recovery, ensuring the children and Stacy were away from the house. "Donnie, I can't lose her," I uttered, my voice laced with fear, as her agonized screams continued.
Six weeks passed.
"You haven't slept in weeks, brother. She's out of danger now. Take a break; I'll watch over her," Donnie suggested, walking into the room.
But I refused to leave her side. I was determined to stay until she awoke until I could see her eyes and hear her voice again. "If you ask me to leave her again, Donnie, I swear I'll turn on you," I warned, my resolve unwavering.
Silently, I pleaded for her to awaken, longing for the moment she would look into my eyes once more.
