At the side of 52nd street, her cab stopped to let her out. Out into the new world she would live in from now on, in the western part of New York where she had somehow achieved to fill a blank spot in a shared apartment.
She took her few belongings as advised from a pre-recorded voice, paid the driver what she owed and stepped onto the wet sidewalk. Then she dared to look at the huge building in front of her, which had been standing for a long time from the looks of it. But it had style. And sadly, 12 floors.
She opened the front door and mentally prepared herself for the five flights of stairs she had to conquer. When she finally arrived on the fifth floor, she was all sweaty and her long curly hair didn't help much with that situation.
Before she could knock on Apartment 32's door, she heard a creak of the wooden floor behind her and turned around.
The door of Apartment 31, the one across from this, was open and a girl gave her a curious look. After staring at each other for a short while, it got weird. "Uh, hey, I'm Sierra, your new neighbour" she introduced herself to break the silence and chuckled.
"Welcome, I'm Lauren." she said with a hesitant smile and then waved awkwardly just to disappear behind a closed door right after.
She shrugged her shoulders and finally knocked.
Shadows under the door suggested a person coming closer from inside and when the door was opened and revealed a handsome latino, Sierra was struggling to regain her breath.
He was wearing a grey longsleeve and black jeans, fitting perfectly to his well-trained body. But the moment she looked into his eyes, Sierra Ricarda Montez felt like time barely even went by. They were of a dark chocolate color, swooping her off her feet. She was a sucker for beautiful eyes.
"Are you the girl that lives here now?" he asked, awakening her from her daydream before she could start drooling.
"Y-yeah, Hi, I'm Sierra Montez." She managed to smile but she felt her cheeks catching fire and immediately cursed herself for not putting on makeup.
He took her hand and shook it, introducing himself with a charming smile.
"Hola, Sierra. Soy Diego Barrueco."
Five simple words and she was already on his hook.
