Chapter 1
Lies and Annoying Yet Confusing Days
Makenna
I walk into school with my two best friends Rebecca and Alana while they chat away. I try to pay attention to the conversation, but my mind is elsewhere.
"So what do you think Makenna??" Rebecca asks pulling me out of my thoughts
"Think about what?" I ask.
"Who do you think is hotter Zac Effron or Harry Styles??" Alana asks.
"David Tennant." I answer with a smile.
"No really." Rebecca says.
"Harry Potter." I answer and they both face palm. "You aren't getting me to answer that. You guys can continue your stupid debate with each other while I go to my locker." I say walking toward my locker.
"What's wrong? You haven't been texting us or calling us or being on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, Pintrest, and Instagram." Alana states.
"I have no internet and I got grounded for being bitchy to my mom." I lie.
"Why were you being bitchy to your mother??" Rebecca asks.
"Because okay. I'll tell you at lunch. I have to get to class." I say grabbing the stuff I need for English and walking away from them quickly. As I walk to class I smile at different people who wave to me and when I finally get there I go to the back of the room. Some guy comes over and sits next to me.
"Hey Makenna. I'm Patrick." The guy says.
"Hi." I say not really paying attention to him.
"I was wondering if maybye you'd like to go out on a date with me?" He asks. I let out a laugh.
"Sorry I'm not really looking for a boyfriend right now. Plus you wouldn't like me that much." I say trying not to be a bitch.
"Can I at least take you out for dinner or a movie and figure out if I would like you for myself?" He asks.
"I don't want a relationship. I don't want to go out on a date. I am sorry Patrick, but no." I say as sweetly as I can.
"Great! Now you just lost me 50 dollars." He mutters to himself.
"Oh nice! So you made a bet with one of your idiot friends that you could get me to go on a date with you. Nice to know. Get away from me." I snap venom lacing my words.
"Actually the bet was to get you to go out on a date with me and then get you to sle..."
"I swear to god if you finish that sentence I will punch you in the face." I snap.
"Get away from her Patrick." Some other guy says glaring at Patrick.
"Oh look the loner finally spoke." Patrick smirks.
"Oh look the dick became an even bigger dick." The guy says.
"Forget you losers." Patrick says and walks away.
"You didn't have to interfere. I had it handled." I say a bit irritated
"Look I don't want to fight. What's wrong?" He asks.
"Nothing." I lie. He then stares into my eyes for a few seconds and turns away. The teacher then walks in and starts class. I can't help but feel nervous yet almost relieved that someone saw that there is something wrong with me, but I can't let anymore people in. The people I have in my life are all I need right now and I trust them.
Alec
Why is she lying? Obviously there is something wrong and it wasn't just that guy Patrick being an ass hole. During class I keep noticing her glancing at me. Why is she doing that? When the bell rings signalling the end of class. Makenna jumps up and leaves the class faster then everyone. I really would love to go after her for some strange reason, but obviously me being who I am I don't and just watch her go. My friend Cameron comes over to me and starts talking my ear off about some cheerleader as I walk to my locker. I glance toward where I know Makenna is because I hear her laughter. It sounds forced. Her smile is forced.
"Earth to Alec!! What is up with you looking at Makenna James lately? She is way out of your league." Cameron says forcing me to look at him.
"As if that dumb cheerleader isn't out of yours." I reply.
"Look Alec she is too bubbly and happy for you. You need a more calm chick like that girl." He says laughing as he points to some girl that looks goth. She is wearing all black with black lipstick. It's not like I have a thing against goth people I just don't want to date her. I don't want to date Makenna either though. I just want to figure her out. I want to be her friend. What makes Cameron think I am checking her out? I mean Makenna is an attractive girl, but I'm not looking at her for those reasons. "Look man, if you think you can get Makenna go ahead. I just don't want to see you heartbroken if she rejects you." Cameron says.
"Cameron you are an idiot. I don't want to date her." I say angrily.
"Then why are you looking at her? I know she is hot, but.."
"Don't call her that!" I snap.
"Exactly. I knew you like her." He says smirking.
"Look Cameron, I don't like her like that. I don't even know her, but you are only saying she is hot becuase you are looking at her ass. That isn't really respectful." I say.
"Stop being such a softy. Are you turning out to be gay?" Cameron asks and that just sets me off.
"Don't mock people who actually are gay. Even if I was which I'm not it shouldn't matter." I snap.
"Look dude come talk to me when you are off your man period and don't flip out on me about mocking girl's periods." Cameron snaps before stalking away. Finally I got rid of him. So for the rest of the day, I go through my classes with pretty much no more problems except for getting shoved around in the hallways. I keep an eye on Makenna and I keep catching her looking at me or staring blankly off into space. As I walk to my locker to get my stuff to go home I feel confused about the whole Makenna thing and I just don't understand . I don't EVER want to be close to people and now I look into some girl's eyes for like five seconds and now I feel like I want to know her. I'm so caught up in my own thoughts that I accidentally walk into someone.
"I am so sorry. I wasn't paying attention." A familiar voice and I say at the same time. I look and see that it's Makenna.
"Oh hi." She says. I stare into her eyes that seem to practically beg me to ask her what's wrong.
"Hi. Sorry." I say and we both bend down to pick up her stuff. I pick up a note book that fell open. I see in red pen it says Doesn't Anyone Notice I'm Not FINE. She quickly pulls it from my hand. I help her pick up the rest of the things and we stand up. "Makenna what is the matter? You aren't the same. I hear your forced laugh. I see your fake smile. I see the signs. Makenna I noticed. You aren't fine and from what I can tell you havn't been for a long time." I blurt out.
"I don't even know your name and you are the one who has found me out. Don't tell anyone." She pleads.
"My name is Alec." I say offering her my hand, but she just pulls me into a hug.
"I need you Alec. Please I really need a friend." She says.
"I'm here and I promise I won't leave.
