Discovering May

Chapter 2

I don't have a book to shout out to for this chapter so I chose my favourite Watt pad book - the quirky tale of April Hale.

Chapter 2 -

I woke up to the sound of my alarm blaring. I inwardly groaned. Another 'awesome' day at school.

I quickly jumped in the shower, then threw on some jean shorts, a red tank top, a cardigan and some ankle boots and ran downstairs to grab some food.

As I rushed down the stairs, I noticed the lack of people in the house. Mum must have already taken the twins to school. The twins being my 13 year old brother and sister, Zac and Jordyn.

I ran out the door, remembering to lock it behind me, and ran across the road, where my bus was already waiting.

I walked into the school hallways to be brutally greeted my my best friends Jodee and Sasha.

"Um... Sasha" I said, " If you hug me any harder you're going to break my ribs!" She laughed in response, letting me go.

" How was your holidays May?" They both asked, eerily in synch. I nodded in response.

"It was was pretty good," I noted, " Could of been better if mum were there for any of it!" Jodee gave me a hug just as the bell rang.

"Shit, girl" she laughed, "you're going to be late for your first class if the year!" She smiled as she walked of the class, along with Sasha.

The bell rang as I walked out of class and towards the cafeteria, where Sasha was already seated, her head deep in a book. I took the seat across from her, closely followed by Jodee taking the seat next to me. Sasha looked up and smiled at us, before continuing with her book.

Jodee turned to me. " hey May, what are you doing this avo? Do you want to catch a movie wish Sash and I?" I shook my head in response.

"Sorry, I can't. I have to pick up the twins from school."

" that's okay," she replied, " see you tomorrow then!" She said as the bell rang for our next classes.

As I drove into the middle school to pick up my brother and sister, I felt out of place, surrounded by little to no cars.

" Hi May!" Said Jordyn, calling shotgun, leaving Zac in the back. Jordyn was an adorable 13 year old. With her blond hair piled on her head in a messy bun. Jordyn always had a smile on her face and rarely got mad . She was quite pretty as well. Something that she had, no doubt, received from our mother.

Zac on the other hand is anything but cute with his always sour mood and his permanent scowl. The only time I had ever seen my brother smile was when he wanted something from me. And he could really pull off those puppy dog eyes when he wanted to. Although he, like Jordyn seemed to have received our mothers looks.

That leaves me on the sidelines, watching my family of beautiful people walk by. For all I know, I could be considered pretty too, but to me, I was like the grinch ( without the whole hating Christmas thing).

I smiled at Jordyn. " hey Jor, how was the first day back?" She laughed at me. " maybe you should ask Zac that question instead!"

I turned around to look at him. "Zac?" He mumbled something that I didn't understand. "Zac!" I said, louder this time.

he looked up at me with that oh-so-famous scowl of his. " I asked a girl out and she said no! Alright?" He looked back down, fiddling with his fingers.

"Oh.." I replied unsure of how to react. " don't give me that sympathy shit, May! Just leave me alone!" He said, slamming the door shut as I pulled to a complete stop in our drive way.

Our house was a one storey flat, quite small, with only three bedrooms. I walked up the stairs into the room that Jordyn and I share, to find mum, surprisingly already waiting for us.

" Jordyn do you mind going to get your brother please? I need to have a chat to the three of you." As Jordyn went to the kitchen to get Zac, I looked up at mum. With her silky brown hair cascading down to her waste, her lovely tan skin and her bright blue eyes, my mother truly looked like a human barbie doll. And I meant that in the best possible way.

As soon as Jordyn and Zac walked into the room, mum started talking. " okay guys," she said, " I'm going to give it to you straight out and I don't want any complaints!"

Zac and Jordyn looked at me for reassurance but I just shrugged.

" We," Mum said looking at us all in turn, " are moving to Australia!"
