“Melanie Evans.”

Shakily I stand on my feet, smooth down my clothing and head towards the voice. An unusually tall and slim woman, with blonde hair and a kind smile is standing in front of me, blocking my way from the door behind her.

 “Miss Evans, I trust?”

Trying to look professional, I give a polite smile and a curt nod.

Her overly- white teeth shine when she flashes a bright, dazzling smile and takes my folder off my arms.

 “Very well, please follow me.”

Walking obediently behind her, I take a quick glance around the hall. Its ceiling is high, full with angelic paintings; it indeed looks magical and the walls are also covered with paints and pictures. Even while wearing my heels, I can sense how soft and fluffy the velvety red carpet feels under my feet.

“Miss. Evans, could you wait here for a moment? I will be back with you in a minute”

Blinking out of my thoughts, I realize we’re in the dinning room of a huge room- suite definitely. The tall, blonde woman walks off the room and suddenly I’m left alone in this overly- big bedroom.

While I’m all by myself, I decide to take a look around the suite. On the dinning table, there are plenty of folders in different colors, mine on top.

Melanie Phoebe Evans, my photographand the rest of my details written with the same bold letters underneath my name.

Well, don’t touch anything, they aren’t yours.

I scowl at my subconscious, I know I should not touch anything, and I surely won’t. Walking quietly back in the middle of the room, I shuffle on my feet. Mentally, I go through all the questions they’ve sent me two weeks before, and all the answers I am about to give.

Concentrate, you’ve been practicing non-stop you’ll do great.

Yeah right, it’s me I am going to be interviewed in a few minutes, not you! I frown at my subconscious’ rolling eyes and wait.

After a moment, the door opens and the blonde lady walks back in, followed by a bald, old man with a white beard and a chubby face.

“Miss Evans, my name is Joshua Adams and I would like to apologize for the delay, we had a bit of a problem” The bald man told me, in a rather chirpy voice.

“I hope everything is okay now, sir?” I asked, my voice slightly anxious.

“Yes, everything is settled, thank you for your concern. Now, take a seat, please. My colleague, Mrs. Knox will keep notes and I will be interviewing you.” He gave me a small smile, to which I replied with a small one, too.

Taking out a mini-disc recorder, he clears his throat and stares at me with a professional look.

 “So Miss Evans…”

With a bright, triumphant smile, I make my way out of the room while my subconscious does her usual happy dance.

Okay that went well. More than well. That went fantastic!

I try very hard not to hug myself in glee, in front of tens of people surrounding me. Walking confidently through the crowd in the corridor, I happily let out a sigh in relief. This was probably the best interview I’ve had this year! Oh, I am so happy.

I should call Amanda when I get in my car; she’s probably been biting her nails off worrying about me. I love that girl.

While walking out of the luxurious hotel, I turn towards the parking lot. Remembering I still need to get my keys from the guy outside, I turn on my heels and bump on something hard, a huge white pillar.

Whimpering in pain and rubbing my -now red- nose, I sit there and take a few breaths, trying to soothe the pain off.

  Damn, it hurts a lot.

 “Are you okay, ma’am?”

The handsome, young receptionist gives me my keys back and offers me a pack of ice, which I gratefully accept and press against my sensitive nose.

Perfect, I am sure this couldn’t be more humiliating. Everyone is laughing at me for sure.

“Thank you for the ice pack” I smile kindly at the guy and hand it back at him, and after inhaling once I turn around and head to my car, my mood slightly ticked off.

Once I’m behind my car’s dark windows I look at the small mirror and let out a squeak in horror; my nose is red, and almost bruised.

Thank Goodness it’s not broken, but it still hurts.

  Damn it.

I let out a tired sigh, and try to cheer myself up by thinking of how perfect the interview was, and a small, hesitant smile is now visible on my lips.

I start the car and head off the hotel’s parking lot, and with the first red light, I call Amanda who answers on the first ring.

“HOW DID THE INTERVIEW GO?”

Her high-pitched voice sounds incredibly loud over the car-speakers, making me flinch yet grin.

“Oh, it was perfect Amanda, really great! You can’t imagine my joy!”

Amanda’s cheerful laugh fills every corner of my car, and I can do nothing but grin even wider; she’s such a great friend. She’s happier than me!

“I knew it! I knew you would do perfect as always! Congratulations!”

“Oh well, let’s not get too excited, it was just the interview. I don’t know if they’ve hired me yet.”

“Shut up, will you?! Think positive! You’ve got the job, I’m totally sure”

Rolling my eyes, I can’t stop the grin that forms on my lips. Amanda has a huge amount of faith in me, and somehow she can always make me feel better.

“Yes, your highness, I am shutting my mouth right away.”

“I want pizza, bring me some and we can discuss your interview before we head for the club”

I groan and shake my head. Bossy little brat. I love you.

“Hmmm, fine. See you in a bit. Bye”

 “Adios Mel!”

Silence is filling the car once more, and I drive there, all grinning to myself. Despite my always somehow negative remarks, I can’t resist to some delicious, fattening pizza.

 You will become a pig.

Screw you. I wave my mean subconscious off and head towards “Jimmy’s” The best pizza ever.
